Dentre os pets não convencionais, os coelhos são animais frequentemente apreciados por deterem um temperamento dócil, entretanto, suas particularidades anatômicas e fisiológicas predispõem a afecções odontológicas, necessitando eventualmente de intervenções cirúrgicas e anestésicas. Tendo vista que não existem relatos sobre a aplicabilidade clínica do bloqueio do nervo maxilar para procedimento cirúrgico nesta espécie, objetivou-se avaliar a eficácia da técnica em Coelho da Nova Zelândia (Oryctolagus cuniculus), de 4 anos, pesando 4,1 kg, atendido no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal do Paraná em março de 2022. Após avaliação clínica e exame radiográfico, foi constatado crescimento retrógrado e instituído como a exodontia de molariformes superiores. Como medicação pré-anestésica, foi administrada a associação de dexmedetomidina (30 ug/kg), metadona (0,5 mg/kg), e midazolam (1 mg/kg). Posteriormente, a indução anestésica foi realizada com propofol (3 mg/kg) e sua manutenção com isoflurano e propofol. Visando analgesia preemptiva, foi realizado o bloqueio do nervo maxilar por referência anatômica com cloridrato de lidocaína sem vasoconstritor (3 mg/kg). Durante o transoperatório, parâmetros fisiológicos como a frequência cardíaca e respiratória, pressão arterial sistólica, média e diastólica, oximetria de pulso, dióxido de carbono ao final da expiração e temperatura retal foram mensurados e posteriormente registrados. Por fim, a técnica de bloqueio do nervo maxilar mostrou-se eficaz para o procedimento proposto, uma vez que foram inexistentes as alterações paramétricas de nocicepção no transoperatório. Entretanto, estudos mais amplos, controlados e com maior número de animais precisam ser realizados a fim de garantir sua indicação, bem como maiores esclarecimentos a respeito da aplicabilidade no emprego de anestésicos locais de longa duração para analgesia pós-operatória nessa espécie.
Os cervídeos são ruminantes bastante presentes na fauna americana. Esses animais raramente enxergam cercas e telas presentes em frente a eles, então traumas ocasionados por choques contra essas estruturas são comumente observados. Uma das lesões características de animais com esse comportamento é a avulsão labial inferior. Ao se deparar com uma lesão dessas, o início do tratamento deve ser imediato, a fim de aumentar as chances de sucesso terapêutico. A correção cirúrgica da avulsão labial pode ser difícil pela falta de musculatura e ausência de pontos de ancoragem pela anatomia facial desses animais. Esse trabalho teve como objetivo relatar o caso de um veado-catingueiro (Mazama gouazoubira) que foi atendido no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal do Paraná com avulsão labial inferior. Após ser anestesiado, o animal foi submetido à correção cirúrgica da avulsão labial, para a qual foi realizada limpeza, desbridamento e divulsão de mucosas, seguidos de suturas simples interrompidas nas margens laterais da lesão, e pontos simples separados utilizando os incisivos como ponto de ancoragem para a sutura em região rostral, com poliglecaprone 4-0. Em seguida, foi realizada terapia de fotobiomodulação com laser vermelho. No pós-operatório foram realizadas medicações para controle de dor e antibioticoterapia, e a alimentação foi restrita a pastosa e triturada. Decorridos 12 dias do procedimento, o animal foi sedado para avaliação e constatou-se total cicatrização do local. Dessa forma o animal pode ser devolvido à vida livre.
Fístula oronasal (FON) é uma comunicação patológica entre as cavidades oral e nasal e ocorrem, em sua maioria, por doença periodontal grave com perda óssea maxilar, mas também podem ocorrer por trauma, lesões iatrogênicas, neoplasias, defeitos congênitos ou extrações dentárias. A FON geralmente é consequência de extração dentária durante o tratamento periodontal, sendo mais frequente em ocasião de exodontia de caninos ou incisivos superiores. Os sinais clínicos são secreção nasal uni ou bilateral e espirros frequentes, anorexia e halitose. O tratamento de escolha é cirúrgico, com a redução da fístula com retalho duplo de mucosa propiciando os melhores resultados. Foi atendido um cão da raça pinscher, de quatro anos, com histórico de esfoliação de canino superior direito (104) após trauma ocorrido há dois meses. Tutor relatou que animal apresentava espirros frequentes desde então. Na inspeção da cavidade oral, foi observada doença periodontal grau III, ausência do dente 104 e FON nessa região. Foi indicado tratamento periodontal e redução de FON. No primeiro procedimento, foi realizado o tratamento periodontal com exodontias. Paciente retornou em seis dias para avaliação, na qual foi observada cicatrização em locais de extração e presença de FON em regiões de 104 e 204. Tutor foi orientado a realizar escovação dentária diária e retornar em dois meses para reavaliação. Nesta, foi constatada presença de fístula bilateral sem diminuição. Foi então realizada cirurgia para redução de FON de 204. Dois dias antes da cirurgia foram prescritos ao paciente antibiótico e anti-inflamatório. A técnica cirúrgica iniciou com um primeiro retalho de mucosa a ser feito foi a partir do palato duro; uma incisão partindo do bordo cranial da fístula, chegando à linha mediana do palato e outra incisão partindo do bordo caudal da fístula, também chegando à linha mediana do palato. Esse retalho foi divulsionado com elevador de periósteo e sobreposto à fístula e suturado. O segundo retalho deve sobrepor o local da fístula e o defeito em palato criado pelo primeiro retalho doador e foi preparado realizando duas incisões divergentes em mucosa vestibular, paralelas às extremidades cranial e caudal da fístula e liberando-a com tesoura romba. Foi então suturado com pontos simples de modo a cobrir todo o primeiro retalho e o defeito causado pela sua doação em palato. No pós-operatório foi indicado uso de colar elisabetano e alimentação pastosa por 30 dias. A medicação pós-operatória prescrita para o paciente foram os mesmos do pré-operatório, incluindo analgésico. Em nova avaliação, a fístula de 204 havia sido reduzida. Foi marcada nova cirurgia para redução de fístula contralateral dois meses depois. Também foi feito retalho duplo em local de 104 e a técnica cirúrgica utilizada foi a mesma, além das mesmas indicações pré e pós-operatórias. Um mês depois o paciente apresentava cicatrização no local de reparo de fístula oronasal (104) e sua consequente redução. Pacientes de redução de FON devem ser acompanhados com certa regularidade.
O Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal do Paraná (HV-UFPR) é uma unidade de apoio ao atendimento de animais selvagens de vida livre resgatados e de cativeiro. O Hospital assessora órgãos públicos que realizam resgate de animais de vida livre, como o Instituto Água e Terra, e o Zoológico de Curitiba, prestando atendimento veterinário. Esse recurso é importante em vista necessidade de pronto atendimento sem que estas instituições disponham de estrutura hospitalar. O objetivo desse trabalho é de relatar os casos atendidos no período de março de 2019 a fevereiro de 2020 no Laboratório de Odontologia Veterinária do HV-UFPR. Foram atendidos nove animais selvagens, sendo cinco originários de resgate pelo Instituto Água e Terra e quatro do Zoológico de Curitiba. Dentre as espécies atendidas estão quatro primatas, sendo um deles do velho mundo, dois felídeos, dois didelphídeos e um ursídeo. Dentre os animais resgatados, todos apresentaram fraturas dentárias e/ou ósseas e dentre os animais de cativeiro, um apresentava fratura óssea, um apresentava fratura dentária e um caso de doença periodontal grave necessitando de múltiplas extrações. Em todos os animais foi realizada radiografia intraoral digital e avaliação minuciosa da cavidade oral e dos elementos dentários. Foi realizado o procedimento indicado para cada caso. O condicionamento animal para avaliação oral é muito importante em parques zoológicos para prevenção de afecções orais, pois muitas vezes a doença só é notada quando há sinais graves com comprometimento sistêmico. Nos casos de contenção química de animais selvagens, é fundamental realizar todos os exames possíveis, incluindo o exame completo da cavidade oral.
