This paper deals with channel estimation for the uplink of UMTS TDD. The transmission medium is characterized by multi-path propagation and the goal is to estimate the channel impulse response (CIR) with the use of training sequences. Tow channel estimation methods are proposed. The Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimator is unbiased, but it is more sensitive to noise. The second channel estimation method, based on the minimization of the mean square error (MMSE), is more robust to noise although that is biased. The performances of these estimators are evaluated with the computer simulation. Some normalized channel models are used in the simulation in order to evaluate the estimators' performances.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
