Background. Because skin lesions affect self-image, vitiligo affects an individual's emotional and psychological well-being, sexual life and relationships with other people. The literature contains a limited number of studies regarding the localization of vitiligo with respect to its effect on certain variables. Aim. To investigate the effects of the presence or absence of genital involvement in vitiligo on sexual dysfunction, dermatological quality of life (QoL), and susceptibility to other psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression. Methods. In total, 90 patients who were admitted to the dermatology outpatient clinic of a tertiary university hospital; the patients included 30 patients with vitiligo with genital involvement, 30 patients with vitiligo without genital involvement and 30 controls (HCs). All groups were evaluated with the Dermatological Life Quality Index (DLQI), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD), Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (ASEX) and Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS). Results. The HC groups exhibited lower total scores on the DLQI, HAD total score, ASEX and GRISS compared with the vitiligo groups (P < 0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between the vitiligo group with genital involvement and the vitiligo group without genital involvement in terms of DLQI, and total scores for HAD, ASEX and GRISS (P > 0.05).
Conclusion. The presence or absence of genital involvement in vitiligo did not have dissimilar effects on the individual's QoL, or their sexual and psychological state.
This study aims to investigate the relationship between Internet addiction and social exclusion in female adolescents. The relational screening method was used in the study. The sample group of the study consisted of 244 female adolescents aged 12-18 living in Cinar district of Diyarbakir. To determine the exclusion of adolescents in social relations, the Social Exclusion Scale for adolescents has been used as a data collection tool. Besides, Young Internet addiction Short Form developed by Young (1998) which is the short form created by Pawlikowski, Altstotter-Gleich & Brand (2013) and adapted to Turkish by Kutlu, Savci, Demir and Aysan (2016) has been used to test adolescents' internet addiction. Independent groups t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Dunn-Bonferroni test, and Spearman correlation analysis were used for data analysis. According to the results of the study, it was found that there was no statistically significant relationship between exclusion score averages and an average of Internet addiction scores (p> 0.05).
Background
Acne vulgaris (AV) is an inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous unit. The relationship between personality and acne development has not been fully explained, and to the best of our knowledge, there are a limited number of studies in the literature evaluating temperament and character traits of individuals with acne.
Aim
The aim of this study is to evaluate temperament‐character traits of individuals with severe acne and to compare them with healthy controls.
Patients/Methods
This study was conducted on 51 patients who admitted to the dermatology outpatient clinic with complaint of acne and were diagnosed with severe AV and 47 healthy individuals, as a control group. All individuals included in the study participated voluntarily. The forms including sociodemographic data, clinical information, and Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) scores were applied to the patient and control groups.
Results
The scores of scales/subscales of exploration (NS1), persistence (P), responsibility (S1), purposefulness (S2), resourcefulness (S3), self‐acceptance (S4), enlightened 2nd nature (S5), self‐directedness (S), integrated conscience (C5), and cooperativeness (C) were statistically significantly lower, and the scores of scales/subscales of worry and pessimism (HA1), fear of uncertainty (HA2), shyness (HA3), fatiguability (HA4), and harm avoidance (HA) were statistically significantly higher in the patient group, in comparison with the control group.
Conclusions
When we evaluated the patients with severe acne in terms of temperament and character features, we concluded that individuals’ feeling of discomfort about their appearance may cause them to be less sociable, more anxious, and to have low resourcefulness and virtues.
