Immediate PBM therapy is more effective than delayed PBM therapy in minimizing the complications associated with mandibular third molar removal surgery.
Objectives Vertical bone loss in an edentulous maxillary alveolar ridge may necessitate a sinus lift and ridge augmentation with localized bone grafts before the placement of dental implants. The multislice computed tomography (MSCT) is used for measurement of bone quantity in the potential implant site and assessment of the volume of maxillary sinus meticulously preoperative sinus lifting. It can also be used to identify and visualize the proximity of the maxillary sinus before implant installation and thereby categorize the treatment plane.
Patients and methodsThe study included 10 patients with edentulous maxillary regions. MSCT was used to measure the sinus volume, alveolar ridge bone height, and width in order to assess the amount of sinus floor lifting and ridge augmentation with localized bone grafts. Results Radiographic images that were obtained preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively indicated the accuracy of the three-dimensional spiral computed tomography (CT) in measuring the sinus volume before bone grafting. Increased alveolar bone height and successful bone osseointegration around the installed implant were assessed postoperatively. Conclusion MSCT has the notable advantages of rapid image acquisition, with less motion artifact, and twodimensional reformations in multiple planes (axial, coronal, and sagittal). Acquisition of high-resolution images with MSCT is imperative for proper diagnosis and surgical treatment planning, which enables an accurate assessment of bone quantity without magnification in implant sites. It also facilitates an accurate assessment of the sinus volume before sinus lifting and ridge augmentation. Egypt
Tongue tumors were induced in rats using Diethylnitrosamine (DEN). Aged Garlic extract (AGE) exhibits anticarcinogenic effects. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect (AGE) against DEN induced tongue cancer in rats. Twenty-four Wister rats were divided into 4 groups. In lateral surface of the tongue; Control Groups I and II, received normal saline, while Groups III and IV were injected with 60 mg/kg DENA in a dose of 0.25ml (15mg/rat of 200g). Groups II and IV received pre-treatment with aged garlic extract 250 mg/kg orally daily for 2 weeks. Specimens for clinical and histopathological examinations were retrieved after 3 and 6 weeks. Although clinical and dysplastic histopathological changes were observed in Group 3 and 4, yet, less aggressive features of malignancy were associated with AGE. Better designed study with different doses “DEN and larger samples of animals, are needed to expand the understanding of the chemopreventive effect of AGE as dietary factor to cancer.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
