‘Innovate or perish’. Universities in this age have evolved far beyond the traditional settings where university was an institution for disseminating knowledge, but today university has been running the role of country’s innovation excellence where it has become a place for disseminating and producing knowledge as well as commercializing their research output which contributed largely to the country’s economic development. Thus this paper highlight the development of research university system in Malaysia which is still at infancy stage compared to RU in the United States and United Kingdom and analyse it’s policy and management procedure so that it can become a direction to other countries which are trying to develop their research and innovation strategies
Contribution/ Originality: This study contributes to existing literature by examining the recent development brought by the new corporate governance regulations 2017 in Saudi Arabia. The finding exhibits that not with standing the new development under the Saudi Regulations 2017, there are still are some provisions that are not consistent with the international standard.
End-of-life vehicles (ELV) policy implementation has long been a hotly debated issue in Malaysia. Vehicles that have become ELVs should be disposed of accordingly to prevent environmental pollution and also for the purpose of recycling useful materials, particularly metals. The automotive industry affects the earth environment through greenhouse gas emissions such as air-conditioning gas (CFC/HFC) which will increase global warming and uncontrolled use of raw materials. Even poorly managed ELV waste will cause gas emissions and toxic substances to be released to the environment. To reduce this problem, the implementation of an ELV policy should be seriously considered. In order to have a successful implementation of the ELV policy, support from the public is essential. Thus, this study aims to understand the ELV related laws and their implementation in the neighbouring countries and to ascertain public perception on ELV implementation in Malaysia. The study involves literature search on implemented ELV laws in the neighbouring countries and a survey involving 58 respondents. Results from the survey were analysed using SPSS. This paper presents and discusses the findings from the study. The study indicates that the level of public awareness and acceptance of ELV implementation are quite low. In general, it can be concluded that the implementation of ELV in Malaysia needs to be carefully studied before it is implemented in order to ensure acceptance from the public.
Effective management of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) represents a sound strategy to mitigate global climate change. ELVs are contaminants that pollute water, air, soil, and landscape. This waste flow must be adequately treated, but no proper rule oversees the disposal of ELV waste in Malaysia. This study aims to determine the extent of implementing the ELV policy and the social readiness in implementing environmentally friendly ELV disposal in Malaysia. The questionnaire seeks public input on critical ELV concerns such as public perception of the phenomena, environmental and safety standards, and recycling and treatment facilities. This research uses a cross-sectional design with 448 respondents in the survey. Fit models in structural equation modeling are evaluated using a variety of goodness-of-fit indicators to ensure an actual hypothesis. This study's advantages include the availability of representative samples and allowing for comparable and generalizable conclusions to larger communities throughout Malaysia. It is found that personal experience is significantly correlated with social readiness. The cause of ELV vehicles knowledge was the vital mediator, along with recycling costs knowledge. Thus, knowledge regarding ELV management costs is the most decisive mediation variable to predict public acceptance. The recommended strategy to reduce resentment and rejection of ELV policy is to disseminate information about the negative ELV impact on environmental and social sustainability.
