SII M M AK Y :A new monomer of the acrylic amidc series. the I\;-formylacrylic amidc. has been prepared and its properties examined. The technically achievable mcthod of preparation consists of oxydation of T%-methylolacrylic amide with manganese oxide in organic solvents. The reactivity of the formyl group is shown in some examples. The compound shows vinyl polymerization, with the formyt group bringing good possibilities in the polymer for cross-linking reactions, which have been testcd in some experiments with hydrazine.
