Zusammenfassung: In der Führungsspitze der deutschen Unternehmen vollzieht sich gegenwärtig ein Generationswechsel von beträchtlichem Ausmaß. Der Artikel geht der Frage nach, welche Konsequenzen dies für die Zukunft des deutschen Modells eines sozialintegrativen Kapitalismus hat. Hält die neue Führungselite an der deutschen Managementkultur festhält, oder orientiert sie sich stärker am US-amerikanischen Shareholder-Value-Modell? Zur Klärung dieser Fragestellung werden die bislang verstreut vorliegenden empirischen Befunde der Managementforschung systematisch gesichtet. Demzufolge kommt es nicht zu einer weitreichenden Angleichung der deutschen Managementkultur an das amerikanische Modell. Unter dem Druck der Globalisierung vollzieht sich jedoch eine stärkere Differenzierung der Managementkulturen in Großunternehmen auf der einen Seite und den kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen auf der anderen Seite. Während das Management der Großbetriebe Elemente des amerikanischen Managementmodells in mehr oder minder stark ausgeprägter Form adaptiert, scheint es in den kleinen und mittelständischen Unternehmen zu einer noch stärkeren Akzentuierung des deutschen Managementmodells zu kommen. Die bislang noch bestehenden Unterschiede zwischen dem Management in den Ost-und westdeutschen Unternehmen werden sich demgegenüber mit dem Generationswechsel auflösen.
