When we lose the ability to draw, we lose a part of our ability to think [7]. Based on this thinking, practicing freehand drawing is still the best way to maintain the mind, the eyes, and the hands in balanced working coordination, as basic thinking tools of architects in term of the design process. Generally, drawing can be divided into two types, observation drawing, and imagination drawing. As part of science, especially for an architect, it is believed that observation activity by freehand drawing is proven as an effort that would increase awareness of a countless number of things among the brewing phenomenon in this complex and complicated of world development today, including digital development in the design process. Furthermore, in term of drawing as a way to emergence the imagination thinking, very important to understand that freehand drawing was performed a central function in the creative process, even a speculative idea. The aims of this paper are to discuss how the role of freehand drawing in improving the quality of thinking in term of the design process, as well as providing ideas for the emergence of critical and effective awareness by observation drawing activities and appropriate images by imagination drawing, in the midst of the development of today's digital era. The discussion was conducted through qualitative descriptive analysis based on experience carrying out freehand drawing courses and some freehand drawing activities. The topic about the role of drawing in the digital era is very strategic because it will remind us of the importance of the role of balance cognition for the general design process.
The aspect of expression is very important in design ideas, amidst the pressure of programming and procedural thoughts nowadays. The expression is a performance that was born from the deepening of a strong identity that makes us further involvement. Freehand drawing is believed to be an important activity that cannot be separated from an architectural design process. Freehand drawing is proven to be an effort that will increase awareness to produce creative thoughts that remain logical. The natural and organic character of a freehand drawing with its flexibility will be able to express the unique value of each design idea. It is very different when compared to the stereotypical technical line of mechanics. This paper aims to discuss the role of freehand drawing in improving the quality of expression during the design process. The discussion was carried out through a qualitative descriptive analysis based on the experience of carrying out freehand drawing courses and several freehand drawing learning and practices. The topic of the role of freehand drawing in the digital age is very strategic because it reminds us of the importance of the role of balance cognition for the design process in general. Light is one of the important factors in human life. Lighting especially in houses of worship is considered a very important part for symbolic and spiritual reasons. Light is the main focus in architecture, both in Islamic and Gothic architecture. The purpose of this study is to summarize the role of light in buildings of worship, especially houses of worship. This study uses a qualitative method of literature study. The results of this study indicate that the role of light in buildings of worship, especially houses of worship, is very important for the congregation, both spiritually and visually. Spiritually, the role of light can provide inner peace and also the closeness of the servant to his God. from a visual point of view the role of light can provide beauty and comfort to the room. From these results, the conclusion is that the role of light in religious buildings in the building of houses of worship is very important for worshippers, in shaping the inner kayakinan both in spiritual terms and in Visual terms
The existence of a city is very important in civilization. It is notonly as a physical habitat where a group of human lives together but alsoas a place where a community develops and becomes a noble andprosperous society. Islamic community creates a city as a means to create aphysical, economic, social and religious environment. This paper discussedhow the settlement of a city develops Islamic civilizations, from the periodof the Prophet in Madinah, then spread to Arab, Africa, and Asian regions, bringing significant roles for the community. Istanbul, one of the importantcities in Islamic civilization, grew with a combination of many traditions, from Hellenic, Byzans, Persia and later Islam; these traditions thenunderwent fusion as basic thinking to develop the city. This thinking wasimplemented in many ways, from the planning conceptions for thestructure of the city, the unity of the main components of the city (palace, mosque, square and market), the settlement configurations, until theaesthetics of the city expressions.
