Background: A COVID-19 outbreak started in Wuhan, China, last December and now has become a global pandemic. The clinical information in caring of critically ill patients with COVID-19 needs to be shared timely, especially under the situations that there is still a largely ongoing spread of COVID-19 in many countries. Methods: A multicenter prospective observational study investigated all the COVID-19 patients received in 19 ICUs of 16 hospitals in Wuhan, China, over 24 h between 8 AM February 2h and 8 AM February 27, 2020. The demographic information, clinical characteristics, vital signs, complications, laboratory values, and clinical managements of the patients were studied.Results: A total of 226 patients were included. Their median (interquartile range, IQR) age was 64 (57-70) years, and 139 (61.5%) patients were male. The duration from the date of ICU admission to the study date was 11 (5-17) days, and the duration from onset of symptoms to the study date was 31 (24-36) days. Among all the patients, 155 (68.6%) had at least one coexisting disease, and their sequential organ failure assessment score was 4 (2-8). Organ function damages were found in most of the patients: ARDS in 161 (71.2%) patients, septic shock in 34 (15.0%) patients, acute kidney injury occurred in 57 (25.2%) patients, cardiac injury in 61 (27.0%) patients, and lymphocytopenia in 160 (70.8%) patients. Of all the studied patients, 85 (37.6%) received invasive mechanical ventilation, including 14 (6.2%) treated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at the same time, 20 (8.8%) received noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and 24 (10.6%) received continuous renal replacement therapy. By April 9, 2020, 87 (38.5%) patients were deceased and 15 (6.7%) were still in the hospital.(Continued on next page)

A PVP-assisted pyrolysis strategy that can simply but efficiently transform zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) into a Co-embedded N-enriched meso/microporous carbon material (Co-NC) is reported for the first time. Without further acid treatment, Co-NC can reach an excellent electroactivity and long-term durability toward the oxygen-reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen-evolution reaction (OER).

Background and Purpose: The benefit of endovascular treatment (EVT) for large vessel occlusion in clinical practice in developing countries like China needs to be confirmed. The aim of the study was to determine whether the benefit of EVT for acute ischemic stroke in randomized trials could be generalized to clinical practice in Chinese population. Methods: We conducted a prospective registry of EVT at 111 centers in China. Patients with acute ischemic stroke caused by imaging-confirmed intracranial large vessel occlusion and receiving EVT were included. The primary outcome was functional independence at 90 days defined as a modified Rankin Scale score of 0 to 2. Outcomes of specific subgroups in the anterior circulation were reported and logistic regression was performed to predict the primary outcome. Results: Among the 1793 enrolled patients, 1396 (77.9%) had anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (median age, 66 [56–73] years) and 397 (22.1%) had posterior circulation large vessel occlusion (median age, 64 [55–72] years). Functional independence at 90 days was reached in 45% and 44% in anterior and posterior circulation groups, respectively. For anterior circulation population, underlying intracranial atherosclerotic disease was identified in 29% of patients, with higher functional independence at 90 days (52% versus 44%; P =0.0122) than patients without intracranial atherosclerotic disease. In the anterior circulation population, after adjusting for baseline characteristics, procedure details, and early outcomes, the independent predictors for functional independence at 90 days were age <66 years (odds ratio [OR], 1.733 [95% CI, 1.213–2.476]), time from onset to puncture >6 hours (OR, 1.536 [95% CI, 1.065–2.216]), local anesthesia (OR, 2.194 [95% CI, 1.325–3.633]), final modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction 2b/3 (OR, 2.052 [95% CI, 1.085–3.878]), puncture-to-reperfusion time ≤1.5 hours (OR, 1.628 [95% CI, 1.098–2.413]), and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score 24 hours after the procedure <11 (OR, 9.126 [95% CI, 6.222–13.385]). Conclusions: Despite distinct characteristics in the Chinese population, favorable outcome of EVT can be achieved in clinical practice in China. Registration: URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov . The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is of significant importance in the development of fuel cells. Now, cobalt-nitrogen-doped chiral carbonaceous nanotubes (l/d-CCNTs-Co) are presented as efficient electrocatalysts for ORR. The chiral template, N-stearyl-l/d-glutamic acid, induces the self-assembly of well-arranged polypyrrole and the formation of ordered graphene carbon with helical structures at the molecular level after the pyrolysis process. Co was subsequently introduced through the post-synthesis method. The obtained l/d-CCNTs-Co exhibits superior ORR performance, including long-term stability and better methanol tolerance compared to achiral Co-doped carbon materials and commercial Pt/C. DFT calculations demonstrate that the charges on the twisted surface of l/d-CCNTs are widely separated; as a result the Co atoms are more exposed on the chiral CCNTs. This work gives us a new understanding of the effects of helical structures in electrocatalysis.

We have synthesized a core@shell nanocomposite using biocompatible bovine serum albumin (BSA) as the core and a pH-sensitive metal-organic framework (MOF) as the shell. Doxorubicin (DOX)/BSA nanoparticles as cores have been prepared. A zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) layer has been coated on the outer surface of the DOX/BSA core. The ZIF layer acts as a capsule for the safe storage of DOX under physiological conditions. An efficient pH-responsive drug delivery system using a BSA/DOX@ZIF, in which the drug is not released in PBS at pH 7.4 but is released at low pH (5.0-6.0), has been constructed. Compared to the pure ZIF, a better biocompatibility has been obtained using the BSA/DOX@ZIF. The BSA/DOX@ZIF shows a much higher efficacy than free DOX against the breast cancer cell line MCF-7. The positive charges on the outer surface of the BSA/DOX@ZIF also improve its cellular uptake.
