The super hydrophobic materials have inspired a great deal of interest and research in recent years because of their unique water-repellent, self-cleaning properties, and their potential for practical applications. This study aims to create a super hydrophobic clay surface from aqueous dispersions of a long-chain hydrocarbon, Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB), and layered silicate via the solution intercalation method. First, to increase diusing tendency of CTA + ions from aqueous medium to the interlayer region of clay, long-chain hydrocarbon agent was • , indicating its super hydrophobic character. XRD pattern and HRTEM images for the organo-clay conrm the intercalated structures.
This study investigates 569 undergraduate students` habits of using technology for social and learning purposes in three universities in Turkey. The universities were selected according to the date of establishment; relatively old, young, and brand-new. The students took the survey of the "Technology Expectations and Experiences of Students" (Gosper et al. 2009) adapted to Turkish by the researchers. Technology use differences for social and learning purposes are compared by the universities. According to the findings; for social purposes, the students most frequently used instant messaging applications (e.g. Whatsapp), SMS, mobile phone and social networking sites; however, for learning purposes, students frequently used internet search engines. There were similarities between the students of the three universities in terms of the levels of technology use for learning technology. The level that the students use these technologies for social purposes is nearly two times more than that of educational purposes. This difference is greater in young and newly established universities when compared to that of the relatively old university. This study can be considered in the planning and adapting the learning technologies for universities.
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which a total of 569 undergraduate students from a rooted (n=109), young (n= 352) or brand-new (n=108) called Turkish university according to their years of foundation are satisfied with a) the technology support and services provided by the universities for learning purposes, b) the use of technology for administrative purposes and c) their overall experiences with the technology used at universities. The "Technology Expectations and Experiences of Students" questionnaire, which was adapted to Turkish by researchers, was used as the data collection tool. The findings showed that the participants were moderately satisfied with the offered campus technologies but their expectations were not met overall. In addition, a significant difference was found in terms of student satisfaction with technology support and the offered services between the students of well-established universities and those of old-brand new universities. The study can be valuable in guiding universities in terms of the technological support and services they provide to their students.
