The present study investigated the effects on the bonding between the denture base acrylic resin and the soft silicon based lining material of maleic anhydridestyrene-vinyl acetate (MA-St-VA) terpolymer and some of its ester derivatives. These ester derivatives were n-propylmaleate-styrene-vinyl acetate (n-PrMA-St-VA), n-buthylmaleate-styrene-vinyl acetate (n-BuMA-St-VA) and n-benzylmaleate-styrene-vinyl acetate (n-BzMA-St-VA). Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy method was used to determine interactions between terpolymers with the acrylic resin and soft lining material. The tensile bond strength of all the groups was compared and the obtained differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The highest value was found for the samples lined with n-BuMA-St-VA (2.11 6 0.21 MPa) and the samples lined with n-BzMA-St-VA had the lowest bond strength (0.3 6 0.12 MPa).
ABSTRACT:In the present study, first, maleic anhydridestyrene (MA-St), maleic anhydride-allyl phenyl ether (MAAPhE), maleic anhydride-heptene-1(MA-Hp), and maleic anhydride-allyl propionate (MA-AP) copolymers have been synthesized in different solvents in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) at 70°C. Then, these four copolymers have been reacted with aniline at 60°C in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF), and maleamidic acid derivatives of these copolymers have been synthesized. Next, they have been obtained from their maleimide derivatives by heating under vacuum at 150°C. All these polymers have been characterized by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and investigated their thermal properties by using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) methods. The analyses results showed that thermal properties of maleimide derivatives of maleic anhydride copolymers changed as depend on the neighbor monomers of maleic anhydride.
This study focuses on the preparation of compatible blends with the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) using a reactive terpolymer maleic anhydridestyrene-vinyl acetate (MA-St-VA). In the first series of experiments, binary blends of the PMMA and the MA-St-VA terpolymer have been prepared in tetrahydrofurane. The PMMA and the MA-St-VA terpolymer formed the compatible blends. The effects on thermomechanical properties of MA-St-VA terpolymer ratio in the blends were studied. The glass transition temperatures (T g ), thermal expansion coefficient (␣), and other thermomechanical parameters for the blends have been established by TMA method and the compatibility of two polymers has been evaluated by these TMA parameters. The addition of MA-St-VA terpolymer to PMMA made a plasticizing effect on PMMA. This effect regularly changed with the increasing of the terpolymer in the blends.
