To evaluate the significance of specific IgG and specific IgG4 in the development of work-related respiratory symptoms, specific IgG and specific IgG4 to Black GR-human serum albumin (HSA) conjugate were measured by ELISA in 309 dye-exposed workers and 63 unexposed patients as negative controls. A survey revealed that 78 (25.2%) had work-related lower respiratory symptoms with or without nasal, skin or eye symptoms. Specific IgG and specific IgG4 were detected in 23% and 14% of the exposed workers, respectively. The prevalence of specific IgG and specific IgG4 was significantly higher in smokers and workers with specific IgE or those with lower respiratory symptoms (P less than 0.05), but was not associated with work station, duration of dye exposure or atopy. These results suggested that the existence of specific IgG to Black GR-HSA might represent a response to Black GR exposure and be closely related with work-related respiratory symptoms.
In 1956, WEINER et al. [l] described the reactions of some unusual human sera which showed apparently non-specific auto-agglutination of red cells only in the presence of bovine serum albumin (BSA).In the present case, the serum of a group 0 donor, a 24-year-old male of Hawaiian-Caucasian-Chinese extraction, was found to agglutinate his own red cells. as well as random group 0 cells, in the presence of BSA at room temperature. No agglutination occurred when the saline and indirect antiglobulin methods were performed. The direct antiglobulin test was negative. The donor had given blood three times during the previous year, and the blood had been used for transfusion without any untoward reaction. Also, until the fourth blood donation, no incompatibility had been found by the albumin method. The present study was carried out to determine the properties of the donor's serum, and t o identify by immunochemical analysis the specific serum fraction probably involved in this phenomenon.Two blood samples were obtained from the donor at an interval of two months. One hundred and twenty group 0 blood samples from healthy donors ranging in age from 18 to 55 years and twenty group O cord blood samples were used. Two percent cell suspensions were prepared in two ways: (1) in homologous serum and (2) after three washings, in physiological saline. An equal volume of each cell suspension was mixed with the donor's serum in test tubes. An identical set of the mixtures was prcpared and 30% BSA was added. Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a chronic and recurrent upper gastrointestinal symptom that has no organic cause. A 49-year-old male patient positive for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) visited the clinic because of FD and constipation. He received complex Korean medicine treatment, including acupuncture and herbal medicines, from April 14 to July 18, 2022 (27 times) in the outpatient department. Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale (GSRS), Nepean Dyspepsia Index (NDI), FD-related quality of life (FD-QoL), Euro QoL visual analog scale (EQ-VAS), and Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) were used as evaluation tools in this study. Symptoms were relieved after 3 months of treatment, and his QoL improved (GSRS, NDI, liveliness status, psychological, 1-0; role-functioning status, 18-9]; EQ-VAS, 40-65; NRS, 8-4). The results revealed that complex Korean medicine treatment could alleviate FD and constipation in patients with HIV.
