ChemInform Abstract The title compound (I) rearranges to the heptaphosphinodiborate (II) in THF at moderate temperatures. Reactions with the Lewis acid BH3 yields (IV) and methylation affords (VI). The 31P and 11B NMR spectra of (II), (IV), and (VI) are reported and discussed.
031ChemInform Abstract A NaP5/THF solution is prepared by reaction of white phosphorus with metallic sodium in THF in the presence of 18-crown-6 (reflux, stirring, 3.5 h, 12% yield). NaP5 is characterized by 31P NMR, UV, IR, Raman, and mass spectroscopy. The chemical behavior of the P5-ion shows some analogies to the pentadienyl anion, e.g., the mixed sandwich complex ((η5-P5)Fe(η5-C5Me5)) has been prepared (reaction of FeCl2 with LiC5Me5 and LiP5 in boiling THF, 27% yield).
