Summary. Between t952 and 1973 26 patients with constrictive pericarditis were treated operatively. There were t9 males and 7 females with a mean age of 40 years. In i2 % tuberculosis and rheumatism were found to be the etiologic factors.X-rays showed calcium deposits in 69 %. The heart silhouette was enlarged in 23 % and small in only 4 %. 9 patients had atrial fibrillation preoperatively. In two cases mitral stenosis was existent and treated simultaneously.5 patients died postoperatively. Death was caused in each instance by cardiac insufficiency. 2 patients died i5 and 6 years postoperatively from congestive heart failure or cirrhosis of the liver.The surviving revealed in 69 % good to excellent, in 26 % fair, and in 5 % unsatisfactory results.
