A presente investigação foi realizada com o objectivo de determinar a residualidade dos herbicidas pré-emergentes aplicados à cultura do arroz na área de Babahoyo. Foi utilizada semente certificada da variedade INIAP 15, cujos tratamentos consistiram nos herbicidas Gamit (1,8 L/ha), Prowl (4,0 L/ha), Bolero (4,0 L/ha), Ronstar (1,5 L/ha), Machete (4,0 L/ha) e o controlo mecânico com três mondas manuais. O desenho experimental foi um desenho de bloco completamente aleatório com seis tratamentos e três réplicas. As comparações de meios foram efectuadas utilizando o teste de alcance múltiplo de Duncan com 5% de probabilidade. Todas as práticas e tarefas agrícolas exigidas pela cultura para o seu desenvolvimento normal foram levadas a cabo. Para avaliar os efeitos dos tratamentos herbicidas, foram avaliados em cada parcela o índice de toxicidade aos 7 e 14 dias após a aplicação, o controlo de ervas daninhas aos 20 e 40 dias, o número de perfilhos por metro quadrado, o número de espigas por metro quadrado, o número de dias até à floração, o número de dias até à maturidade, a altura da planta, o comprimento do panículo, o número de grãos por espiga, o rendimento da cultura e a análise económica. Os resultados mostram que a utilização dos herbicidas investigados não causou danos 7 e 14 dias após a aplicação na cultura de arroz irrigado; o melhor controlo de ervas daninhas foi obtido com a utilização de Bolero, na dose de 4,0 L/ha; a aplicação de Bolero na dose de 4,0 L/ha e Prowl, 4,0 L/ha mostrou o maior número de perfilhos e orelhas/m2, com 370 e 311, respectivamente; As variáveis dias até à floração e dias até à maturidade mostraram diferenças muito significativas nos tratamentos estudados; o herbicida Bolero na dose de 4,0 L/ha mostrou a maior altura de planta (89,00 cm), o maior comprimento de panícula (28,00 cm), o maior número de grãos por panícula (139 grãos) e o maior rendimento de grãos (4557,33 kg/ha).
