El objetivo del artículo fue comprender la estructura operativa del Fondo Agropecuario de Emergencias (FAE) que se lleva a cabo en Uruguay ante una emergencia agropecuaria, particularmente las emergencias declaradas en los años de 2018 y 2020, teniendo como guion la comprensión de su aporte al desarrollo rural y a la producción familiar. La estrategia metodológica se compone por un trabajo de campo, complementado por estudios bibliográficos. El FAE ha planteado mejoras a los beneficiarios, entre ellas se puede observar la contribución a mitigar situaciones adversas en situaciones extremas, pero en lo que refiere al apoyo económico la tasa de interés resulto inadecuada y hubo inconvenientes logísticos para la distribución de insumos. Se constató que la estructura operativa del FAE ha generado apoyo a los beneficiarios, particularmente a los productores familiares, ante las situaciones de emergencias agropecuarias declaradas, lo que se interpreta en acciones puntuales al desarrollo rural.
