El presente artículo tiene el objetivo de realizar una cronología de los procesos de paz que se llevaron a cabo en Colombia hacia finales de la década de los 80 e inicios de los 90 del siglo XX. En tal sentido, se abordan los orígenes, protagonistas y contextos históricos de las negociaciones entre el Gobierno nacional y el Movimiento Alianza Democrática (M-19), Partido Revolucionario de Trabajadores (PRT), Ejército Popular de Liberación (EPL), Movimiento Indígena Armado Quinten Lame (MAQL), y la Autodefensa Obrera (ADO). Se ponen de manifiesto los esfuerzos y cambios a favor de los diálogos y apertura hacia la paz que impulsaron tanto el presidente Barco a través de su lema: “Mano tendida y pulso firme" y el presidente Gaviria con su lema: “Negociación y estrategia", que condujeron a la desmovilización, dejación de armas, disolución, participación en la vida política y en la Asamblea Nacional Constituyente de 1991 de estos grupos subversivos. En síntesis, entre el Gobierno nacional y las guerrillas citadas, se logró la firma de acuerdos finales de paz, y con ello, apaciguar en algo, la violencia y mejorar la favorabilidad política, en una época de gran crisis para el país.
