Although photothermal therapy (PTT) can act on tumors alone, resulting in tumor shrinkage or even eradication, this effect is short-lived, and the tumor may regrow. Thus, the most helpful contribution of PTT to cancer therapy is to employ it in conjunction with other tumor therapies, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, photodynamic therapy, gene therapy, radiotherapy therapy, and multiple combination therapy to boost treatment efficacy. This paper covers the benefits and drawbacks of combining photothermal therapy with various therapeutic approaches by the nanodrug delivery system and the possibilities and obstacles of clinical combination therapy.
Scarring
is caused by excessive medical treatment in the tissue
remodeling stage; hence, the need for medication is not constant throughout
the stage of burn recovery. In this study, we construct a nano self-adaption
release system (Cur-ZIF8-HA) using hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified zeolite-imidazole-frame-8
(ZIF-8) as the nano-vehicle and curcumin (Cur) as the bioactive compound
for the treatment of burns. The release of Cur within 48 h in the
media of pH 8.5, pH 6.0, and pH 7.4 was 13.94, 54.05, and 20.17%,
which could realize antibacterial functions in the inflammation stage,
wound healing in the tissue proliferation/formation stage, and prevention
of excessive fibroblast development and aberrant extracellular matrix
deposition in the remodeling stage. Based on this property, Cur-ZIF8-HA
has superior efficacy in healing bacterially infected burn wounds in vivo. This work provides a self-adaption release system
with antibacterial wound-healing properties and prevents scarring
functional based on the ZIF8-HA nano-vehicle, which opens a new way
for the clinical application of curcumin for burn healing.
Due to the body’s systemic distribution of photothermal agents (PTAs), and to the imprecise exposure of lasers, photothermal therapy (PTT) is challenging to use in treating tumor sites selectively. Striving for PTT with high selectivity and precise treatment is nevertheless important, in order to raise the survival rate of cancer patients and lower the likelihood of adverse effects on other body sections. Here, we studied cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) as a supplementary procedure to enhance selectivity of PTT for cancer, using the classical photothermic agent’s gold nanostars (AuNSs). In in vitro experiments, CAP decreases the effective power of PTT: the combination of PTT with CAP at lower power has similar cytotoxicity to that using higher power irradiation alone. In in vivo experiments, combination therapy can achieve rapid tumor suppression in the early stages of treatment and reduce side effects to surrounding normal tissues, compared to applying PTT alone. This research provides a strategy for the use of selective PTT for cancer, and promotes the clinical transformation of CAP.
Heating load forecasting of municipal steam heating system is an important part of the smart city. According to the forecast results, heating companies can arrange production reasonably and provide heating uniform and stable to improve energy efficiency. For the features of the time series of heating monitor data, we present the optimal GM (1, 1) model based on the metabolic GM (1, 1) model. Results from theoretical analysis, simulations, and experiments show that the performance of the optimal GM (1, 1) model forecasting is effective with smaller error, robustness against outliers and able to meet forecast demand.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
