Objectives: To investigate the effect of 1% procaine injection, which is used in neural therapy, on shoulder pain and dysfunction in patients diagnosed with supraspinatus tendinopathy. Methods: The Range of Motion values, Visual Analog Scale and the QuickDASH Scale scores of 70 patients, who were diagnosed with musculus supraspinatus tendinitis based on magnetic resonance imaging findings, were analyzed. The data of the scales obtained before neural therapy and at the follow-up visit at four weeks after the end of therapy were compared, and a p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: After neural therapy, a statistically significant increase was observed in Range of Motion values and there was a statistically significant decrease in both the Visual Analog Scale and QuickDASH score averages. Conclusion: This is one of the rare studies showing the effects of neural therapy application on shoulder pain severity and dysfunction in patients with supraspinatus tendinitis who are resistant to medical therapy. doi: https://doi.org/10.12669/pjms.38.3.4823 How to cite this:Bashan I, Ozturk GY. The gardening of ornamental plants comes back to ancient times (Urartians). Nowadays the gardening of ornamental plants is done worldwide as in the Van provinces of Türkiye. Old and traditional gardens can be seen in different regions of this province naturally. Among these plants, Rosa laxa Retzius var. harputense T. Baytop (Kişmiri rose), is an exotic plant coming from Central Asia. Kişmiri rose has semi-double and miniature flowers and blooms for about five months in the ecological conditions of Van. It has not only highly decorative but also has a light, pleasant, and enthusiastic fragrance. As far as we know there is no previously published on the volatile profile of Rosa laxa Retz var. harputense (Kişmiri rose). For this purpose, in this study, "Headspace Solid Phase Micro Extraction Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry" (HS/SPME/GC/MS) was applied for the detection of volatile compounds of Kişmiri rose flowers. A total of 31 compounds of Kişmiri rose were identified and quantified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Among these identified compounds, phenyl ethyl alcohol (26.59%), cis-3-hexenyl acetate (18.573%) was detected as the major ones. According to the obtained results, it is concluded that our species has also a Chinese origin.
Aim: Stroke remains a massive public health burden, affecting approximately 795,000 individuals each year. It is the leading cause of long-term disability in adults and the third leading cause of death in developed countries. After a stroke, medical complications are common and can prolong hospital stay, worsen stroke outcomes, and increase the cost of care. The most common medical complications related to stroke are infections, including pneumonia and urinary tract infection (UTI). Intervention strategies previously investigated in these cases and other patient populations include prophylactic antibiotics, antiseptic-impregnated catheters, and quality improvement interventions to reduce inappropriate catheterization. In addition, in recent years, complementary and alternative medicine methods, such as Melaleuca viridiflora (also known as tea tree or Niaouli oil) have become increasingly popular. The primary uses of this oil have historically been associated with the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects of this plant. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of M. viridiflora (Niaouli) oil in the treatment of UTIs in stroke patients.Material and Method: We did not find any study in the literature on the effects of Niaouli aromatherapeutic oil on UTIs, which are common in hemiplegic patients; therefore, we planned the current study. The hospital records were screened to identify patients treated at the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Unit of Health Sciences University Adana City Training and Research Hospital, who were diagnosed with UTIs during their follow-up and recommended Niaouli aromatherapy oil as a complementary treatment. The oil was supplied by the patients themselves. As the method of use, the patients were asked to prepare a washing solution by dripping 10 drops of Niaouli oil into 1 liter of water. The patients were recommended to wash the perineum area three times a day with this solution for 20 days.Results: The mean age of the hemiplegic patients evaluated in the study was 51.55±19.20 (min=18, max=77) years. Of the patients, 72.7% were male, 42.4% had an American Spinal Injury Association classification of C, 54.5% had spontaneous bladder emptying, and 30.3% had stage 1, 21.1% had stage 2, and 3.0% had stage 3 spasticity. Leukocyte esterase and leukocyte in urine and sedimentation values statistically significantly decreased in the post-treatment period compared to the pre-treatment period.Conclusion: UTI is a common complication in stroke patients. In this study, it was determined that the efficacy of the treatment of UTIs increased, and the use of antibiotics significantly decreased with the utilization of the fungicidal and bactericidal effects of M. viridiflora (Niaouli) aromatherapy oil.
Introduction: To investigate how 1% procaine injection therapy, one of the neural therapeutic agents, affects neck disability and pain intensity in patients who have cervical discopathies that are causing chronic neck pain and/or functional limitations Methods: The records of 58 patients diagnosed with cervical discopathy were examined. The Range of Motion values, Neck Disability Questionnaire and Visual Analog Scale scores were compared at baseline and one month after neural therapy. The results of cervical magnetic resonance imaging were analyzed, and the mean scores were compared between the protrusion and bulging. P values of <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: A statistically significant increase was observed in Range of Motion values after NT in all movements of the neck and the decrease in the mean Visual Analog Scale and Neck Disability Index scores after neural therapy were found to be statistically significant in both the protrusion and bulging groups. Conclusion: This is the first study providing evidence of the effects of neural therapy on neck pain severity and neck disability in adult patients with cervical discopathies (protrusion and bulging) presenting with chronic neck pain resistant to medical treatment, who had not yet made a surgical decision.
