Özetİnme, beynin kan kaynağında azalma sonucu meydana gelen beyin hasarıdır. İnmenin patofizyolojisinde enflamatuvar olayların da rol oynadığı bilinmektedir. Periodontal hastalıklarda oluşan lokal enflamasyon, sistemik proenflamatuvar sitokin düzeyini arttırarak endotelyal disfonksiyona ve ateroskleroza neden olabilmektedir. Diğer kronik enflamatuvar hastalıklar gibi periodontal hastalıkların da inme patofizyolojisinde rol alabileceğine dair kanıtlar mevcuttur.
