Ici, le temps se condense, devient compact, visible pour l'art, tandis que l'espace s'intensifie, s'engouffre dans le mouvement du sujet, de l'Histoire » (Bakhtine : 237).Le dernier roman d'Antonio Muñoz Molina, La noche de los tiempos, publié en 2009, nous présente un personnage, Ignacio Abel, pris, pour reprendre l'expression de Bakhtine, dans le mouvement de son histoire et de l'Histoire. En effet, le récit s'ouvre sur la vision du protagoniste Ignacio Abel perdu dans un espace qui annonce l'attente d'un ailleurs : la gare de Transylvannia à New York, alors qu'il s'apprête à effectuer un trajet en train de deux heures qui le conduira à Rhineberg. Ce voyage du protagoniste, seul dans son compartiment, sera « un instant d'images arrêtées », un de ces moments où « nous redécouvrons à chaque fois les ingrédients qui participent à la consumance de notre vie » (Lefebvre : 50). Il reverra le long parcours qui l'a amené aux États-Unis depuis Madrid, ville où il a vécu jusque-là. Dans un temps condensé, un peu moins d'un an, l'univers du protagoniste a été bouleversé et ses attentes se sont déplacées, jusqu'à devenir une double quête désespérée : d'une part celle d'un monde utopique dénué de barbarie, d'autre Vertige de l'action : de l'ascension à l'effondrement
