Economic survival and the relationships between librarians, publishers, and subscription agents were the themes of this presentation exploring the related needs and goals of the library community. Each of the presenters contributed a perspective on how organizations are dealing with the opportunities and challenges to add value for their patrons and customers.
As libraries shift to electronic formats, new challenges and business questions for claiming print subscriptions have arisen. This session takes a look at how claiming was done in the past, how your agent can assist your claiming efforts, and two views on claiming in the new world of e-subscriptions.
Marilyn Quinn and Gracemary Smulewitz presented an excellent session on the MARC holdings format (MFHD). Marilyn focused on Rider University's actual implementation of the format, what they've learned, and advantages of using the format. Gracemary's discussion focused on the process Rutgers is undergoing to determine whether or not to use the format and whether or not the pros outweigh the cons when implementing the MARC holdings format.
