The Waruṅgahan inscription was issued in 1227 Ś / 1305 AD. Its mentioned some names that had never been found on other inscriptions from the same era, as well as an earthquake event. The Waruṅgahan inscription contains a description commemorating the re-establishment of a freehold (sīma) of Waruṅgahan as a grant by the King, Nararyya Sanggramawijaya, necessary since the original inscription was lost in an earthquake which occurred around that time. The reappraisal is at the request of the original heir of the inscription holder, namely the child pāduka mpuṅku śrī buddhaketu. The mentioning of pāduka mpuṅku śrī buddhaketu and the event of this earthquake are peculiar matter for further studies. The name pāduka mpuṅku was previously only known as referring distinctively to the 11th Century king Airlangga. The existence of an earthquake that causes the inscription to disappear can also be a starting point for study material to suggest a potential earthquake cycle, since it is common knowledge that earthquakes always have "return period patterns".This paper so far serves merely as a preliminary report announcing the discovery of this new data. The focus here is more on the initial transliteration work rather than a definite translated version of the prasasti, and it is expected to open up opportunities for further research in the future.
This research discusses and applies photogrammetry techniques to determine the depth of the script carvings on some worn-out stone inscriptions so images of scripts can be more readable. Inscriptions are the backbone of ancient Indonesian historical writings. Unfortunately the significance of many such ancient inscriptions can not yet be used optimally since many inscriptions are found in a state of having poor legibility, and this due both to natural as well as human factors. To this day, photogrammetry techniques have not been widely used by Indonesian researchers in order to help analyze existing cultural heritage objects, especially stone inscriptions. In addition to previous photogrammetric techniques reviews, this article also brings forward my experiment on the photogrammetric techniques, especially those directly related to the stone inscriptions. The reconstruction was not intended to interpret the meaning of the scripts, but rather to give epigraphists a new insight into other ways of clarifying worn-out scripts.
=== Recently, public attention for the preservation of cultural heritage has increased. This is evidenced by the increasing number of heritage enthusiasts who are actively visiting archaeological sites. However, these communities are often unaware on how they can help to preserve the cultural heritage more effectively. This article offers a participatory activity that can be carried out by the community to help preservation effort, especially in the recording and documentation of cultural heritage, namely three-dimensional (3D) recording using a smartphone. The procedure proposed here is based on a case study in recording the Lakshmi statue from Madiun. It is proven to be able to produce clear, accurate, and easy-to-use 3D recordings. As well as being able to assist the authorities in documenting cultural heritage objects, the 3D record can be used for the reconstruction of objects that are no longer complete, developed into learning materials, and dissemination of cultural heritage information quickly and easily. In this way, the community will be able to establish closer cooperation with the authorities and other parties in preserving cultural heritage.
The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the efforts of the Kandang Kebo Community in handling new found inscriptions. The method used is descriptive-qualitative, combined with inductive reasoning. Structural analytic, especially Internal Criticism (transliteration, translation and interpretation) is also applied to analyse the new found inscription. Information for this study were collected from the members of Kandang Kebo community, stakeholders, and local community. Data collection were done by observation, literature study, interviews, and documentation. This study found that community which participate in maintaining cultural heritage objects is a provision in the Cultural Heritage Act no. 11 of 2010. Kandang Kebo as a society's community has been trying to apply this Act. The using of social media becomes one of the methods, with its quick and easy way; it makes new artifacts discovery easier to be known by others. Kandang Kebo then proceed this news to the office of BPCB. There are some inscriptions that are successfully saved and read by Kandang Kebo, followed by positive responses from the government.
