In building industry, green demand and investment creates a positive footprint on the environment. However, these environmental opportunities have not been adequately harnessed and explored by Clients of green building apparently because of poor understanding of the motivating drivers and benefits accruing from green building demand and investment. The decision to demand for or invest in green building is influenced by certain environmental motivating drivers and expectations which have not been fully examined by researchers and not well understood by stakeholders. Based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and Theory of Value Belief Norm (VBN) explanations, this study focused on the Clients, purchasers and users' motivations and intentions to go for green building. Based on the reviewed theories, we hypothesized that environmental motivations and expectations for green building demand and investment are embedded in the environmental quest for protection of eco-system and bio-diversity, improvement of water and air quality, reduction of solid waste, conservation of natural resources, reduction of societal costs of landfill creation and maintenance, minimization of site impact and reduction emission to air and enhanced energy efficiency. However, the predictive validity of these propositions depends on the client's beliefs, values, social pressure, and perceived behavioural control. Keywords: Green building, Green building demand and investment, Environmental motivations and expectations, Theory of planned behaviour, Theory of value belief norm, Environmental sustainability.
Information and communication technology provides construction organizations with new opportunities for improving the process of collaboration, managerial functions and maintenance of competitive advantage. Its adoption has however been faced with problem of incompetent organizational leadership. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to examine the influence of transformational leadership style on IT adoption in construction organizations. Structural equation modelling analytical approach was used to test the presence of a positive and direct relationship between transformational leadership style and IT adoption in organizations. Results strongly supported the hypothesis of a positive and direct relationship with a path coefficient of .79. Part of the recommendation of the study was for managers to diligently exhibit transformational leadership behaviours during technological change in their organizations by paying attention to the needs of their employees, providing ways and reasons for employees to comprehend and analyse problems in different ways, adequate employee motivation and building confidence and trust with employees.
Securing flood insurance for real estate properties in flood-hit areas is rather uncertain under the Malaysian scenario. This study attempts to identify the demand-side factors of flood insurance in coastal residential areas, and to examine how these factors differentiate between two groups of respondents, namely flood insurance purchasers and non-purchasers, using discriminant analysis. Tests using Wilks' lambda, eigenvalues, canonical correlation, functions at group centroids, and classification accuracy have provided strong evidence of significant differences between the two groups based on physical exposure/susceptibility to flood, resilience/adaptive capacity to flood, and overall perception of vulnerability. The most important variables accounting for group differences were low-elevation house site, flood depth entering house, perception about high-priced flood insurance, and level of income. The likelihood of purchasing flood insurance increased with higher physical exposure/susceptibility and overall perception of vulnerability. Resilience/ adaptive capacity to flood event also increased with higher levels of income and education.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
