A medida protetiva de acolhimento institucional é aplicada, como medida excepcional e transitória, em crianças e adolescentes em situação de risco conforme previsto no Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente. Salienta-se a necessidade de aumentar o conhecimento especializado, bem como a prioridade de intervenções fundamentadas para esta população específi ca a fi m de que o período de institucionalização não contribua para prejuízos desenvolvimentais. Recentemente, a literatura especializada tem destacado a alta incidência de sintomatologia depressiva nesta população. Assim, o presente estudo visou verifi car a incidência de sintomas depressivos em uma amostra de crianças e adolescentes em medida protetiva de acolhimento institucional na cidade de Patos de Minas. Participaram do estudo 23 crianças/adolescentes (entre 7-16 anos). A sintomatologia depressiva foi avaliada através do Inventário de Depressão Infantil -Children's Depression Inventory -CDI. Os resultados mostraram que 35% das crianças/adolescentes participantes obtiveram percentil considerado clinicamente signifi cativo, e outras 35% apresentaram percentil aproximado ao que acusa sintomatologia depressiva. Os resultados da pesquisa sugeriram como perfi l de criança/ adolescente com sintomas depressivos: ter um tempo de acolhimento superior a 2 anos, histórico de acolhimento, não ter padrinhos, não possuir irmãos na instituição e ser acolhida depois dos 7 anos de idade. O presente trabalho contribuiu para o aumento do conhecimento na área. Destaca-se a importância de estudos com amostras de diferentes regiões do país para confi rmar ou ajustar a normatização proposta nos estudos que envolvam este tema.
