RESUMOEste ensaio busca analisar as transformações territoriais a partir do crescimento econômico, populacional e das fragmentações municipais ocorridas a partir da década de 1980, na região Sudeste do Estado do Pará, especialmente na área onde se concentram os maiores projetos de mineração da companhia Vale,e as relações de poder que constituem a região de Carajás na atualidadecomo a principal região do Estado Brasileiro, ao receber os maiores investimentos ligados a mineração, aceleradas a partir da instalação do Projeto Ferro Carajás e dos demais projetos ligados as atividades mineradoras na Amazônia Paraense, ampliando a fronteira mineral na Amazônia e suscitando, novas questões de interesse estratégicos para o estado Brasileiro a partir da exploração mineral,levando-se em conta a questão sobre a mineração sercapaz ou não, de induzir odesenvolvimento sócio econômico na região ou apenas, mera exportadora 1 Pesquisa com financiamento do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq).
