Se intenta una aproximación diferente a uno de los capítulos muy comentados y tal vez mal interpretados de la producción política (y polémica) de Francisco de Quevedo. Se trata de su intervención en el tema relativo al episodio catalán de la Guerra de los Treinta años. Quevedo alejado ya desde decenios de la vida política activa, con especial pasión y profundidad. Del folleto, que se titula La rebelión de Barcelona ni es por el güevo ni es por el fuero, se lleva a cabo un análisis terminológico y conceptual. Pero mas allá del polemista, está presente un «hombre político» racionalista, capaz de ahondar mucho más. Quevedo, con agudeza, logra entrar en el fondo de la cuestión: la pretensión catalana de «ser libres con señor». Esa idea de libertad «constitucional» resulta todavía más radical que la independencia defendida por Venecia o auspiciada por Holanda. Ese el problema: los Catalanes resultan «inservibles» para el realismo político del siglo XVII , aunque participen en las alteraciones del siglo.
