Autonomous learning shifts the focus from teaching to learning in relation to lifelong learning skills. This system helps students to get direct skills and knowledge from different sources rather than focusing on passing their examinations. However, lecturers remain as an advisor and guider. This paper describes the application of autonomous learning and why it is essential to be promoted massively again especially during and after the COVID-19 issue. This study aims to re-promote the practice of autonomous learning as an alternative strategy in learning system due to social distance policy resulted from pandemic covid-19 era. This research has used qualitative research method, both primary and secondary information were collected from various sources such as observation, reading published articles, newspapers, books, social media, universities reports and students’ forums, as well as document analysis on the previous research of autonomous learning. Results of the research shows that autonomous learning is a best alternative learning strategic in this tragedy pandemic covid-19 era. However, in order to facilitate and enable this learning student’s readiness is more important, this is because it is a self-learning approach. As the conclusion and suggestion, the development of digital service and online studies have increased and stimulated the use of this system.
The purpose of this research is to help the learner as a multilingual student in improving her English by understanding a particular learner’s strength and weaknesses in speaking and writing. Single case study is used as a method. Steps in conducting this research are initial interview, analysis of spoken data, and also analysis of written data. The results of the interview, spoken and written data being discussed in detail using previous research and theories as literature research. Results of the research showed that some mistakes in her writing and speaking are influenced by her L1 or in this case Bahasa Indonesia.Keywords: single case study; speaking; writing; multilingual
This study aimed at analyzing information needed, efforts of the students with disability in fulfilling their information need, and to find out the obstacles experienced. The study uses a qualitative method by having 7 informants: students with disability, parents, and teacher of Special Education School in Semarang. The methods of data collection are observation, interview, and documentation. The data sources are obtained from a primary and secondary data source. By analysing the data based on Miles and Huberman, it is found that, 1) Varied efforts used by students in fulfilling the information needs. Most of the students tend to use the information from teacher, parents, friends and also use audiovisual media like information technology and television in fulfilling their information needs. 2) Different obstacles experienced by each student with disability in order to fulfill their information need. However, the common obstacles are reading, listening, speaking and physical accessibility orientation.
Di era globalisasi ini, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk pustakawan adalah suatu keharusan. Hal ini dianggap penting bagi pustakawan ketika berkomunikasi dengan perpustakaan dan vendor asing, atau mengakses penelitian dan menghadiri konferensi sesuai dengan disiplin ilmu mereka. Studi Perpustakaan dan Informasi di Universitas Diponegoro sebagai objek penelitian ini juga diberikan Bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran wajib bagi mahasiswa di setiap semester. Kurikulum sebelumnya untuk Studi Perpustakaan dan Informasi di Universitas Diponegoro adalah: General English (semester pertama), English for Conversation (semester kedua), English for Librarian (semester ketiga), Translation (semester keempat), dan Speaking (semester kelima). Namun, terdapat sejumlah masalah terkait dengan desain kurikulum tersebut. Setelah mengajar selama satu semester pada kelas penerjemahan (translaton), dan berdiskusi dengan dosen lain di kelas terjemahan lainnya, beberapa masalah ditemukan. Masalah pertama adalah sebagian besar siswa tidak memahami kosakata terkait perpustakaan. Masalah kedua adalah siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam mengatur kalimat untuk penerjemahan Bahasa Inggris - Indonesia. Kemudian, mengarah pada masalah ketiga yaitu dalam Rencana Pembelajaran Semester pada mata kuliah penerjemahan yang direncanakan untuk mengajarkan terjemahan Indonesia - Inggris dan terjemahan Inggris - Indonesia tidak dapat dicapai. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain ulang kurikulum Bahasa Inggris untuk Studi Perpustakaan dan Informasi berdasarkan masalah yang dihadapi di kelas. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah pengaturan kurikulum baru untuk mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada program studi Perpustakaan dan Studi Informasi. Desain kurikulum yang baru adalah sebagai berikut: General English (semester pertama), English Conversation (semester kedua), English – Indonesian Translation (semester ketiga), Indonesian – English Translation (semester keempat), dan English for Librarian (semester kelima).
English for tourism needs to be learned since travel and tourism is a dynamic engine of economic development and job creation throughout the world. In 2016, statistics showed that the travel and tourism industry is one of the highest contributors in global economic development. This significant development of travel and tourism can influence the English language which is the most widely used and spoken language around the world. Not only as a community tool, English for tourism has a role in the delivery of quality service. This research focuses on one aspect of ESP. That is textbook analysis. Textbook has an essential role in ESP since it facilitated learner to keep focus on learning English based on their relevant topics and language function related to their field. Textbooks represent a key element in almost every language programme. Textbooks also serve to provide a structured lesson outline which can be beneficial for both teachers and students. Three different textbooks are discussed in this paper and being analysed using Tomlinson's theory of well-designed textbook.
