A cana-de-açúcar é uma fonte de nutriente amplamente utilizada na nutrição de ruminantes no território brasileiro. Porém, processo inadequados de trituração e moagem da cana-de-açúcar podem dificultar a sua apreensão pelos animais ou até mesmo causar traumas no trato gastrointestinal. O presente estudo relata um caso de um bovino com histórico de dificuldade respiratória e aumento de volume focalmente extenso na região ventral do pescoço que foi a óbito três dias após ser internado em um hospital veterinário do Distrito Federal. Os achados de necropsia revelaram acúmulo de exsudato purulento em tecido subcutâneo e musculatura no pescoço, massa composta com tecido fibrinonecrótica em região músculo cleidocefálico com presença de fragmento de casca de cana-de-açúcar em seu interior. Esse fragmento formava uma fístula entre a massa e a região de laringofaringe permitindo escoamento de exsudato purulento para o rúmen e pulmão. Baseado nos achados macroscópicos, quadro clínico e alterações hematológicas, a causa morte do animal foi insuficiência respiratória decorrente de pneumonia grave, agravada por compressão das vias aéreas superiores pela massa em região de pescoço, associada a processo infeccioso grave.
