-The objectives of this study were to estimate the curve of dehydration, bromatological composition and occurrence of fungi in Tifton 85 grass, submitted to four methods of dehydration. The curves of dehydration were studied in a completely randomized design with a 4 × 11 factorial scheme with four drying systems (1 conditioning + 1 turn-over; 2 conditionings + 1 turn-over; no conditioning + 1 turn-over and no conditioning + 2 turn-overs) and 11 sampling times (0, 3, 15, 18, 21, 24, 39, 42, 45 and 47 hours after the cutting), with six replicates. For the bromatological composition and fungi occurrence, the experimental design was completely randomized in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme with the four drying methods of Tifton 85 grass and three periods of evaluation (before the cutting, at the time of the baling and 30 days after storage) with six replicates. It was found that after the first hour after cutting and at the end of the period of dehydration, Tifton 85 plants that were treated with conditioners showed higher levels of dry matter. Stored hay that was treated with conditioners presented higher levels of acid detergent insoluble protein. Until baling, the drying methods did not alter the crude protein content of hay; however, after storage, the hay submitted only to turn-over showed crude protein content higher (13.90%) than those submitted to conditioners (9.94%). There was an increase in the occurrence of fungi after storage, but the application of conditioners and one turn-over resulted in lower CUF/g, compared with other treatments, enhancing the effect of conditioners on accelerating the dehydration rate and obtaining better hay storage conditions.
The objective of this work was to verify the in vitro effect of alcoholic extracts of propolis (AEP) on the germination of spores of Phakopsora euvitis and Pseudocercospora vitis, and also on the mycelial growth and sporulation of Elsinoe ampelina. For the germination assay the AEP was used at concentrations of 0.025; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2; 0.25 and 0.5%. Distilled water, ethanol at 0.35% and the fungicide azoxystrobin were used as control treatments. For mycelial growth and sporulation the concentrations 0.05; 0.1; 0.2; 0.4; 0.5 and 1.0% of AEP were used. The control treatments were potato-dextrose-agar (PDA) medium, PDA + 0.7% ethanol and the fungicide azoxystrobin. The results showed that AEP has a low in vitro antifungal activity against P. euvitis, P. vitis and E. ampelina, for the tested concentrations.
Nematodes can be associated with the soil ecological condition, thus being associated with this sustainability condition of agricultural production. Studies of their diversity can be applied with the purpose of using them as bioindicators of environmental changes and the productive impacts. However, these organisms have been neglected in the agroecosystems, only assuming status of pathogen when their population is very high, with considerable losses in productivity. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the nematodes cause damage to plants, 25% are nematodes grouped into trophic levels of fungivores or fungal feeders, bacterivorous, and omnivores, according to the type of their food. In many cases it is not known the ratio of population level of the nematode with the level of damage in plants. For this reason, the use of pesticides and fertilizers is still part of the most common practices by farmers, causing loss of soil organic matter, soil erosion and groundwater contamination, in addition to an imbalance in the microbiote. The objective of this work was to make a brief review about the diversity of nematodes in the soil in the agroecosystems that can be used in studies of sustainability, as soil quality bioindicators. Several species of nematodes have the potential to be used as biological indicators of soil quality. In this sense, the knowledge and use of bioindicators by rural producers are important, in order to encourage practices of sustainable management systems that do not cause the soil biodiversity imbalance.
Tanzania grass plants were cultivated in pots of PVC tubes (50 cm of height x 15 cm of diameter) containing a mixture of soil and sand (3:1). The plants were inoculated with spore pathogen suspension containing 10 2 , 10 4 and 10 6 conidia/mL to obtain different levels of disease. Severity and number of tillers were evaluated weekly. After four weeks, it were evaluated the weight of the fresh matter of leaves (FM), percentage of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF). The disease reduced significantly the plant tillering and FM after the second evaluation (P < 0.05). There was no significant correlation among the variables DM, ADF, and the area under disease progress curve (AUDPC). However, there were positive (P < 0.01) and negative (P < 0.05) correlations among CP and NDF, respectively, with AUDPC, as possible result of the activity of the pathogen. These results showed that B. maydis inhibits the development of the Tanzania grass and promotes alteration in the quality of the forage.
