Introdução: O objetivo do presente estudo é analisar o desempenho dos acadêmicos do Centro Universitário de Patos de minas (UNIPAM) na prova da Avaliação Nacional Seriada dos Etudantes de Medicina (ANASEM) aplicada aos discentes do segundo ano do curso em 2016. Método: foi consultado o site da ANASEM, onde foram obtidos dados referentes ao desempenho dos alunos do UNIPAM e, posteriormente, comparados à média dos resultados obtidos pelos alunos de Medicina no Brasil, Sudeste e Minas Gerais. Para análise dos resultados foi realizada uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema "educação médica" nas bases de dados Scielo, Lilacs, Pubmed e Google Acadêmico, além da consulta ao Projeto Pedagógico do curso de Medicina da referida instituição. Resultados: Os alunos do UNIPAM obtiveram melhor desempenho que a média nacional, regional e estadual nas questões objetivas. Nestas, a classificação dos estudantes ficou nos níveis adequado e avançado; nenhum estudante da instituição classificou-se no nível básico. Nas questões discursivas, em apenas um item de seis, o escore dos alunos do XXX foi inferior à média. Conclusões: O curso oferecido pelo UNIPAM apesar de relativamente novo (8 anos em 2016), busca se adequar às mais novas metodologias de ensino e, devido a isso, obteve resultados superiores às médias das universidades particulares e, de maneira geral, alcançou um nível de proficiência melhor que o nacional regional e estadual.
