Objetivo: analizar barreras y facilitadores relacionados con el diagnóstico de la lepra en Costa Rica, desde la perspectiva de la persona con la enfermedad y en el contexto de la vida cotidiana. Métodos: se llevó a cabo un estudio cualitativo de carácter exploratorio a partir de 25 entrevistas semiestructuradas, a personas con lepra o con antecedente de haberla padecido, de entre 23 y 88 años, atendidos en el sistema de salud público costarricense. A partir del análisis de los datos cualitativos, las barreras y facilitadores se agruparon en factores personales, culturales y la oferta de los servicios de salud. Resultados: en relación con los factores personales, la mayoría de los participantes reportó no poseer conocimiento ni conciencia previa a la enfermedad. El temor a ser estigmatizado, la sintomatología intermitente, sentirse bien, compromisos laborales y familiares, fueron percibidos como barreras. Entre los factores culturales, algunas creencias religiosas fueron percibidas como barreras, y la historia familiar de lepra como facilitador en términos de la búsqueda de atención y diagnóstico. Con respecto a los servicios de salud, el acceso oportuno a citas con personal de salud informado, la telemedicina y médicos de la familia, fueron citados como facilitadores. Conclusiones: las principales barreras y facilitadores descritos en los resultados del estudio deben ser tomados en cuenta a fin de contribuir a la detección y tratamiento oportuno de la lepra, para curar la enfermedad, evitar la discapacidad y eliminar la transmisión. Objetivo: el contagio familiar de la enfermedad de Hansen es un hecho bien establecido;aunque la transmisibilidad es baja, los contactos intradomiciliarios de personas enfermassin tratamiento son un grupo con alto riesgo. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar lascaracterísticas sociodemográficas, culturales y clínicas comunes en grupos familiares, conantecedente de enfermedad de Hansen, como insumo para mejorar el tratamiento de la lepra. Metodología: se realizó un estudio cualitativo, empleando la técnica de entrevista enprofundidad semiestructurada, basándose en una guía de entrevista elaborada, y tomandocomo referencia factores sociodemográficos, sociales y culturales relacionados con eldiagnóstico y tratamiento. Se seleccionaron 25 personas adultas entre 23 y 88 años de edad, deambos sexos atendidos por el sistema de salud público costarricense. Se utilizaron genogramaspara identificar miembros de la familia con antecedentes de la enfermedad. Resultados: el estudio mostró que 12 participantes provenían de 3 grupos familiares; dosgrupos con tres generaciones afectadas. Los participantes fueron diagnosticados en edadeseconómicamente activas de vida. Además, realizan ocupaciones manuales, con niveleseducativos bajos y de religión cristiana. Al momento de la entrevista conocían el antecedentefamiliar. La forma de presentación clínica en los tres grupos familiares fue Lepra lepromatosa.Se identificó un caso de lepra conyugal y una participante de 15 años de edad al diagnóstico. Conclusiones: el estudio identificó características sociodemográficas, culturales y clínicascomunes de grupos familiares, que evidenciaron la necesidad de fortalecer la vigilancia decontactos en familias con nuevos casos. Resumen: El objetivo de la presente investigación fue identificar la autoeficacia relacionada con la búsqueda y con la administración del tratamiento en pacientes con lepra o que han padecido lepra, basados en el Modelo Creencias en Salud en Costa Rica. Este estudio encontró que las personas participantes poseen expectativas de la situación, de resultado y autoeficacia percibida en la búsqueda y administración del tratamiento. Las personas participantes atribuyeron diversas causas a la lepra. En primer lugar, se contemplaron las causas relacionadas con factores externos al comportamiento de la persona y, por ello, creen que no podrían evitar su aparición. Todos los participantes refirieron que actualmente las personas no fallecen a causa de la lepra porque hay tratamiento. Cumplir con el tratamiento fue la principal expectativa para tratar la enfermedad. Como conclusiones se obtienen que las intervenciones que mejoran la autoeficacia deberían ser prioridad, puesto que permitirá a las personas vencer las barreras, comenzando con la atención aguda, atención primaria y el cumplimiento del tratamiento.
