Este estudo avaliou a taxa de produção per capita de resíduos sólidos urbanos, bem como identificou os principais mecanismos de disposição final e tratamentos dos resíduos sólidos urbanos coletados do estado da Paraíba. No Brasil a produção per capita de resíduos sólidos urbanos é estimada em 1kg. (hab.dia) -1, sendo produzido diariamente algo em torno de 210 mil toneladas e coletados diariamente em média 172 mil toneladas. Verificou-se que os serviços de limpeza pública, neste estado, do quantitativo dos resíduos sólidos urbanos produzidos, são coletados atualmente algo em torno de 93% e da fração coletada, 40% em média está sendo confinada em aterros sanitários que estão localizados na região metropolitana da cidade de João Pessoa e na cidade de Campina Grande. A quantidade estimada de resíduos sólidos urbanos coletados diariamente é de 2.600 toneladas.dia-1, o que corresponde a um quantitativo de matéria orgânica putrescível de aproximadamente 1.430,000 toneladas.dia-1. Portanto, considerando apenas esta matriz de produção de matéria orgânica putrescível e que esta matéria orgânica será utilizada para produção de composto orgânico, seria produzida um total de 858,0 toneladas de composto orgânico.dia-1, o que propiciaria uma aplicação de 15,9 toneladas de composto orgânico (hab.ano) -1, na área potencialmente agricultável. Pode-se afirmar também, que não é seguro em nenhum aspecto o confinamento de resíduos sólidos urbanos em aterro sanitário, haja vista a complexidade do processo de confinamento em si, a demanda de área requerida e custos financeiros associados, além dos subprodutos gerados e dos impactos ambientais do entorno.
Neste trabalho objetivou-se realizar a caracterização qualitativa e quantitativa dos grupos bacterianos responsáveis pelos processos de oxidação e redução de nitrogênio, aplicando-se a técnica do número mais provável (NMP) em um sistema experimental constituído por reator UASB, Filtro Biológico Percolador (FBP) e reator anóxico, instalados e monitorados de forma sequenciada no processo de tratamento de lixiviado de aterro sanitário e esgoto doméstico. A eficiência da etapa de amonificação constatada durante a etapa de conversão do nitrogênio orgânico a inorgânico, no reator UASB foi de 6,4%, representando um acréscimo de 9,8 mg/L de nitrogênio amoniacal no efluente do reator. O NMP das bactérias oxidantes de amônia (BOA) variou de 0,8x102 a 1,4x105 NMP/100ml. Já o NMP das Oxidantes de nitrito (BON), variou de 0,8x102 a 2,2x104 NMP/100ml. Para bactérias desnitrificantes, o NMP variou de 7,0x103 a 2,6x104 NMP/100ml. A remoção biológica de nitrogênio amoniacal observada no FBP, apresentou eficiência média de 16,42%, gerando um efluente com concentração média de 136,4 mg N-NH4+.L-1 no FBP. Com base nesses resultados, o sistema experimental demonstrou capacidade de realizar os processos globais de transformação do nitrogênio. Porém, destaca-se a necessidade do controle rigoroso nos parâmetros operacionais, para atingir maiores eficiências na remoção no nitrogênio a longo prazo.
O lixiviado de aterro sanitário (LAS) é um resíduo com elevada carga de poluentes recalcitrantes, altos níveis de nitrogênio amoniacal, sólidos, metais pesados, fósforo e baixa relação DBO5/DQO. O presente estudo foi desenvolvido em sistemas alimentados em regime de batelada. O lixiviado foi coletado no Aterro Sanitário Metropolitano de João Pessoa (ASMJP-PB) e apresentou concentração média de 2514 mg.L-1 de N-amoniacal. A Cepa de Chlorella sp. foi isolada do lixiviado. O sistema constituiu-se de 7 biorreatores alimentados com lixiviado in natura diluído em água destilada em diferentes percentuais (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 e 100%), tendo Meio Basal de Bolds (MBB) como controle positivo. Cada biorreator foi alimentado com 500mL de substrato e 10 mL de cultivo de Chlorella sp. em fase estacionária, densidade celular de 5,47×104 cel.mL-1, TDH de 336h com amostragens de 50 mL a cada 48h para avaliação do pH, oxigênio dissolvido, turbidez, nitrogênio amoniacal e contagem de células. As análises foram conduzidas em duplicata. A estatística dos dados foi realizada por meio de um planejamento full fatorial de três níveis Box-Behnken 3(2-0) design (BBD) combinado com a metodologia de superfície de resposta e (ANOVA), por meio dos softwares Microsoft Excel 2013, Statistic 8,0 e Minitab 17. Foi registrado crescimento celular em todos os tratamentos, com remoções de N- amoniacal variando entre 6 e 44%, e incrementos celulares variando entre 27 e 178% até 96h de monitoração. Os resultados deste estudo são indicativos de que a Chlorella sp. consegue crescer em lixiviado, podendo ser aplicada na fitorremediação de LAS. Palavras-chave: Crescimento celular. Toxicidade. Lixiviado de aterro sanitário é um subproduto líquido advindo de infiltrações de águas pluviais e da biodegradação da fração orgânica fermentavel depositada em aterro sanitário, este apresenta elevada concentração de nitrogênio amoniacal e matéria orgânica recalcitrante. Tendo em vista a importância da busca por novas tecnologias de tratamento para o lixiviado gerado em aterros sanitários, nesta pesquisa foi avaliada a eficiência do tratamento conjugado de lixiviado de aterro sanitário e vinhaça de cana de açúcar empregando-se os processos físicos, químicos e biológicos, em um reator de dessorção seguido de reator UASB. O substrato utilizado para alimentação do reator UASB consistia da mistura de vinhaça de cana açúcar mais lixiviado de aterro sanitário em proporções que propiciasse a formação do substrato com concentração média de N-NH4+ de 160 mg.L-¹. O reator de dessorção apresentou eficiência média em termos de remoção de N-NH4+ de 88%, sem necessidade de adição de substâncias químicas, tornando possível pós-tratamento do lixiviado por via biológica. A eficiência média de remoção de DQOtotal e DQOsolúvel no reator UASB foram de 68% e 47,6% respectivamente.
