Os contaminantes emergentes são compostos que apresentam potencial danoso ao meio ambiente e à saúde, mesmo em baixas concentrações. É considerado um novo desafio para a comunidade científica, que vem conduzindo pesquisas mundialmente para subsidiar o desenvolvimento de padrões de qualidade da água para consumo humano, visto que o tratamento do tipo convencional utilizado pela maioria das ETAs é ineficiente para remoção de tais contaminantes. Visando ampliar e contribuir com os estudos que estão sendo realizados sobre a temática, o presente trabalho apresenta através de pesquisa bibliográfica, uma revisão sobre contaminantes emergentes presentes em águas destinadas ao consumo humano: ocorrência, implicações e tecnologias de tratamento. Os resultados apontam que os contaminantes emergentes são oriundos principalmente das águas residuárias lançadas sem tratamento nas águas superficiais. Uma vez contaminadas, as águas superficiais tornam-se fonte de contaminação a curto e longo prazo, ocasionando danos a biota aquática e aos seres humanos. Por não serem removidos no tratamento convencional de água, se faz necessário a utilização de tecnologias avançadas para remover contaminantes emergentes de águas destinadas ao consumo humano. Todas as tecnologias estudadas mostraram-se promissoras podendo ser utilizadas em escala real nas ETAs do país. Pesquisas relacionadas a contaminates emergentes presentes em águas destinadas ao consumo humano são de extrema importância ambiental, atraves delas será possivel identificar possiveis contaminates e desenvolver tecnologias apropriadas para sua eliminação evitando danos a saúde pública.
Este estudo avaliou a taxa de produção per capita de resíduos sólidos urbanos, bem como identificou os principais mecanismos de disposição final e tratamentos dos resíduos sólidos urbanos coletados do estado da Paraíba. No Brasil a produção per capita de resíduos sólidos urbanos é estimada em 1kg. (hab.dia) -1, sendo produzido diariamente algo em torno de 210 mil toneladas e coletados diariamente em média 172 mil toneladas. Verificou-se que os serviços de limpeza pública, neste estado, do quantitativo dos resíduos sólidos urbanos produzidos, são coletados atualmente algo em torno de 93% e da fração coletada, 40% em média está sendo confinada em aterros sanitários que estão localizados na região metropolitana da cidade de João Pessoa e na cidade de Campina Grande. A quantidade estimada de resíduos sólidos urbanos coletados diariamente é de 2.600 toneladas.dia-1, o que corresponde a um quantitativo de matéria orgânica putrescível de aproximadamente 1.430,000 toneladas.dia-1. Portanto, considerando apenas esta matriz de produção de matéria orgânica putrescível e que esta matéria orgânica será utilizada para produção de composto orgânico, seria produzida um total de 858,0 toneladas de composto orgânico.dia-1, o que propiciaria uma aplicação de 15,9 toneladas de composto orgânico (hab.ano) -1, na área potencialmente agricultável. Pode-se afirmar também, que não é seguro em nenhum aspecto o confinamento de resíduos sólidos urbanos em aterro sanitário, haja vista a complexidade do processo de confinamento em si, a demanda de área requerida e custos financeiros associados, além dos subprodutos gerados e dos impactos ambientais do entorno.
Neste trabalho, investigou-se a capacidade de remoção de nitrogênio amoniacal de lixiviado de aterro sanitário previamente diluído por Chlorella sp. imobilizada em matrizes poliméricas de alginato/quitosana (AG/QT) e alginato de cálcio(AG). Dois sistemas de tratamento foram avaliados, um com biorreatores tubulares alimentados com substrato constituído por lixiviado de aterro sanitário (LAS) in natura mais esgoto doméstico (ED) e outro sistema constituído por biorreatores cônicos, tendo como substrato LAS diluído em água destilada. Os ensaios foram realizados em regime batelada a 27o C e luminosidade de 85 µE. s-1.m-2. As análises de MEV e EDS da superfície das esferas indicaram que a estrutura suporte possui porosidade e retém as células em seu interior. Foram constatadas eficiências de remoções de nitrogênio amoniacal de 40% após 4h de tratamento do substrato LAS/ED com microalga imobilizada em AG/QT. Já nos ensaios da Chlorella sp. imobilizada em AG, foram registradas eficiências remoções entre 81 e 97% após 2h de tratamento do substrato LAS diluído em água destilada. Além disso, a Chlorella sp. apresentou eficiência de remoção de N-amoniacal de LAS diluído em água destilada na faixa de 49 a 98% com incrementos de oxigênio dissolvido de até 192% em 5 h de monitoramento. Tais resultados indicam vantagens significativas do uso de microalgas imobilizadas para o tratamento de águas residuárias, tanto em termos recuperação e reciclagem de recursos, quanto em relação ao potencial fitorremediativo da Chlorella sp. na remoção de nitrogênio amoniacal de lixiviado de aterro sanitário.
O presente estudo avaliou influência da biomassa algal no pós tratamento de esgoto doméstico em distintas lagoas de polimento. Para tanto, a pesquisa foi realizada na Estação Experimental de Tratamento Biológico de Esgotos Sanitários (EXTRABES), localizada na cidade de Campina Grande-PB, em duas fases experimentais. Na primeira fase, o sistema experimental era constituído de quatro lagoas, na qual duas lagoas foram monitoradas com alimentação contínua (LC57 e LC45) e duas com alimentação semi contínua (LB57 e LB45). Na segunda fase experimental, foi avaliado o desempenho de três lagoas alimentadas em bateladas (LBT45 e LB245), e uma alimentada continuamente (LC245). Verificou-se que a determinação das concentrações de clorofila-a pôde proporcionar uma estimativa da biomassa fitoplanctônica, no entanto, elas foram facilmente alteradas, por variações da alta incidência luminosa, temperatura, carga orgânica e TDH. Foi observado que o efluente digerido e a biomassa de algas proveniente da lagoa de transbordo com TDH de 2,4 dias na primeira fase do estudo, propiciou um maior desenvolvimento da comunidade fitoplanctônica. Durante a segunda fase, as lagoas de polimento alimentadas em bateladas sequenciais (LB245 e LBT45) apresentaram maiores concentrações de clorofila-a em relação a fase experimental anterior. Concluiu-se que as lagoas de polimento alimentadas em regime de batelada se destacaram por apresentarem remoções superiores às lagoas com alimentação contínua e semi contínua, evidenciando-as como promissora no tratamento de esgoto doméstico. Além de obter excelentes resultados, principalmente nas remoções de nutrientes, foi possível tratar uma quantidade superior de afluente em menos tempo de operação.
O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a degradação de microcistina–LR no tratamento de água de abastecimento, em sistema convencional seguido de fotocatálise homogênea (UV/H2O2). As condições ótimas para o tratamento convencional foram determinadas em jar test com a dosagem (50 mg.L-1) de Sulfato de Alumínio, pH inicial (6.8) de coagulação e tempo de sedimentação de 15 minutos. Nestas condições as etapas de coagulação, floculação, sedimentação e filtração do método convencional da água mostraram-se eficientes na remoção de cor verdadeira (80%) e turbidez (97%), não sendo satisfatória à remoção da microcistina–LR. Contudo, houve remoção significativa deste micropoluente pelo processo oxidativo avançado (UV/H2O2). Dos seis tratamentos realizados no reator fotocatalítico, apenas aquele de concentração de 1000 mM (UV/H2O2), após 15 minutos de oxidação, atingiu o valor máximo permitido pela Portaria de nº 005/2017 anexo XX para os padrões de potabilidade. Aos 60 minutos do processo, houve uma remoção de 83.3% da microcistina-LR para esta mesma dosagem de H2O2, que atingiu o valor final aproximado de 0.5 μg.L-1 de MC-LR. O método empregado para análise da oxidação da microcistina-LR por CLAE–EM, mostrou-se altamente sensível e rápido na detecção de fragmentos resultantes da oxidação de (UV/H2O2) identificando o aminoácido ADDA presente no analito apartir do fragmento m/z 135 e assim comprovando a eficácia do tratamento. Concluiu-se que a combinação de um tratamento convencional seguido de processo oxidativo avançado (POA) aplicados ao tratamento de água de reservatório eutrofizado, é uma solução eficaz e segura para obtenção de água potável.
