We undertook an integrative literature review of articles pertaining to perioperative nursing care provided to patients using postoperative accelerated recovery protocols. To select the articles, we searched the MEDLINE, PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and LiteraturaLatino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde databases. We identified 329 studies, 13 of which met our inclusion criteria and described perioperative nursing care activities. Nursing activities noted in these articles were hypothermia prevention and maintenance of normothermia, restriction of IV fluids, assessment of vital signs, management of symptoms and pain, support of early ambulation, care for tubes and drains, oral administration of carbohydrate-rich foods, assessment of ability to tolerate diet, and encouragement to resume activities of daily living. There was a lack of research on this topic by nursing professionals; additional research by nursing professionals is needed regarding nurses' roles in providing this care.
Agradeço a Deus. Aos meus pais Angélica e Emanuel (in memoriam) por sempre me permitirem sonhar e me ensinarem a nunca desistir. A minha afilhada Olivia, por dar sentido a nossas vidas. Agradecimentos A Prof a. Dr a. Objective: to create and validate an instrument for detecting potential cases of surgical site infection through post-discharge telephone surveillance. Method: a methodological study using psychometric analyzes to develop and validate an instrument for conducting post-discharge surveillance of surgical site infection. Results: the instrument had a total content validity coefficient equal to 0.87. It was applied to a sample of 100 patients and compared to a medical and nursing physical examination to detect surgical site infection, resulting in satisfactory Cohen’s kappa (0.83), Cronbach’s alpha (0.87) and Comparative Fit Index (0.998). The difference between the time spent on telephone calls for patients positive for surgical site infection was statistically greater than the time spent on calls for patients negative for surgical site infection (p <0.001). Sensitivity was 76.4%, with specificity of 100%, negative predictive values of 92.5%, positive values of 100% and accuracy of 94%. Conclusion: the instrument was validated in content, criteria and constructo stages.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
