RESUMONeste trabalho, foi analisado o efeito do teor de lignina da madeira de Eucalyptus globulus Labill. na otimização das condições do cozimento kraft. Foram realizados 72 cozimentos com cavacos de seis árvores de Eucalyptus globulus subespécie globulus com oito anos de idade. As árvores foram selecionadas com base em uma amostragem de 50 indivíduos da espécie. Os cavacos das três árvores de menor teor de lignina, com média de 20,53%, foram misturados entre si proporcionalmente ao peso das árvores, formando o nível com teor de lignina baixo; os cavacos das três árvores de maior teor de lignina, com média de 23,02%, também misturados proporcionalmente entre si, formaram o nível de teor de lignina alto. Os dois níveis diferiram estatisticamente entre si, diferentemente das densidades básicas das madeiras que não diferiram. Avaliaram-se três condições de temperatura máxima de cozimento (160, 165 e 170ºC) e três condições de álcali ativo (17, 18,5 e 20%) para os dois tipos de cavacos. Através de análise de regressão, estabeleceramse relações entre as características das celuloses e as condições de cozimento que melhor representassem os pontos ótimos. A otimização realizada através dos modelos de regressão selecionados indicou temperatura máxima de 168ºC e álcali ativo de 17,
O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a durabilidade natural de quatro espécies florestais (Pinus elliottii, Acacia mearnsii, Hovenia dulcis e Melia azedarach) em campo de apodrecimento. O experimento foi implantado no município de Frederico Westphalen – RS, sendo utilizadas 20 árvores, 5 para cada espécie analisada, as quais foram transformadas em moirões roliços enterrados a uma profundidade de 40 cm do solo. Nos períodos 0, 6 e 12 meses foram retirados discos para a determinação do teor de umidade e realização de análises químicas. Com idas mensais a campo, foram realizadas inspeções visuais para verificar o estado das peças e o desenvolvimento de organismos xilófagos. Em laboratório, a determinação do grau de deterioração foi realizada através da solubilidade da madeira em hidróxido de sódio a 1 %. Os procedimentos foram realizados em triplicata e analisados estatisticamente pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade de erro. Os resultados mostraram que o teor de umidade manteve-se alto ao longo do experimento. Nas avaliações visuais foi constatada a ocorrência de um único fungo, Pycnoporus sanguineus, na Acacia mearnsii e Pinus elliottii. O tempo de exposição causou variações consideráveis na composição química das espécies indicado pelo aumento da solubilidade da madeira.
O crescente interesse mundial na polpa celulósica produzida a partir da madeira de Acacia mearnsii incentiva estudos que comprovem sua propensão e eficiência para esse fim. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as propriedades físico-químicas da madeira de Acacia mearnsii, bem como avaliar seu desempenho na produção de celulose kraft, sob diferentes condições de cozimento. Amostras de madeiras das áreas de produção de sementes (APS) e clones foram avaliados. A polpação kraft foi realizada com fator H constante (1363) e álcali ativo variando de 14% a 24%. A densidade básica das madeiras de clone e APS não diferiram estatisticamente (0,544 g/cm³). A análise química revelou que o conteúdo médio (clone e APS) de extrativos, lignina e carboidratos foi de 4,67%, 16,66% e 77,02%, respectivamente. A condição de polpação mais eficiente foi obtida com álcali ativo de 14%, número kappa 16 e rendimento depurado de 57%. De acordo com os resultados, a madeira de Acacia mearnsii apresentou grande potencial para ser utilizada como fonte de fibra curta na obtenção de polpa celulósica pelo processo kraft.
