The use of springs in creep experiments is discussed, and a method is described such that by allowing a spring to creep under its self-weight a greater amount of strain-rate/stress data may be obtained from one test. Low-stress diffusion creep experiments on both spring and tensile specimens have indicated that creep is governed by a Bingham-type equation, and an analysis is presented which describes the effect of Bingham flow upon the creep of springs.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
