Finding for a complex control plant an analytical model that is detailed enough for controller design is often hard or even impossible. In such cases the regulation of the system can be performed by knowledge-based fuzzy control. Under the assumption that there exists a locally valid linear description for the plant the stability problem of the nonlinear fuzzy control-loop can be addressed with the multivariable circle criterion e. g. in linear-matrix-inequality format. The application of that stability criterion is demonstrated for fuzzy control of a nonlinear parameter-varying milling process and approved in both simulations and realtime application. 0-7803-73864/02/$17.00 0 2002 IEEE
Passive systems are systems that are free of energy sources such that -provided that no energy is supplied from external sources -the stored energy is non-increasing. Setting a passive system into feedback interconnection with a lossy passive system an energy exchange takes place where energy dissipates out of the feedback loop. Thus the feedback system will reach a state of minimal energy and remain there in a stable manner. The present paper is focussed on the feedback theorem for passive systems and with respect to stability the theorem's fields of application for analysis and synthesis are pointed out. In this context control loops are treated that contain in addition to a LTI-system (linear time-invariant system) an uncertain LTI-system or a LTV-system (linear time-variant system) or a nonlinear system respectively. Particularly it is shown that LTV control loops can be handled by establishing an affine relation between state-space matrices and time-variant parameters; for nonlinearities that are more general than sector-nonlinearities a generalized circle criterion is stated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
