Demographic kinetics of pre-imaginal populations of Aedes mariae (Diptera : Culicidae) in west Algerian coasts
Keywords : Diptera, Culicidae, ecology, taxonomy, Culex pipiens, habitat, Morocco. The dry conditions which occurred in Morocco from 1981 to 1983 have resulted in the selection of a new habitat by Culex pipiens, which is a very adaptable species, in hollows of trees. Morphological descriptions of the fourth larval instar, the pupae and the male and female adults have shown that these populations living in iree holes (phytotelmata) belong to the form C. pipiens autogenicus.
Oviposition preferences of Aedes (Ochlerotatus) caspius (Pallas) (Diptera : Culicidae) in a temporary mediterranean littoral marsh in FranceKeywords : Culicidae, oviposition, sediment, micro-habitat, macrophytes. In the mediterranean area, humid zones are a main component of the aquatic habitat. These zones are used for multiple activities -hunting, agriculture and bird protection -, but they constitute an important public nuisance in harbouring the development of Aedes larval mosquitoes. The aim of this paper is to present the relationships between habitat characteristics and the spatial distribution of oviposition of Aedes caspius.Oviposition sites appear to be selected by the insects based on vegetation community composition. Humidity, substrate composition and ferric oxides are determinants of vegetation community structure. Identification of mese ecological niches may be used in operational techniques for control of Aedes populations by the EJDM.
