Dans une communication anterieure l ) l'un de nous a demontre que l'oxydation d'une liaison double au moyen de l'acide peracetique donne presque toujours un diol melange a des acetates. Cette reaction se differencie netternent de l'oxydation par l'acide perbenzoyque qui donne presque toujours les etheneoxydes. Le m&ne auteur supposait alors que l'acide peracetique pouvait Etre considerk comme monoacetylperhydrol et que l'oxydation etait le resultat d'une addition simple de cette substance a la liaison double (une addition avec reversion de Walden). O n pouvait s'attendre alors a Ice que la produit initial fut toujours le monoacetate et a ce que la formation du diacetate ou du diol libre soit due respectivement a une acetylation ou a une saponification ulterietlre.Cependant il est aussi possible que le cows de la reaction depende d'une maniere prononcee des groupes qui sont lies directement aux atomes de carbone insatures. M. Derx2) d'abord, piiis M. J. Petrus Blumberger et l'un de nous 3, ont trouve que la vitesse de l'oxydation par l'acide perbenzo'ique depend de la place de la liaison double par rapport au noyau benzenique, le phenyl-1 -propkne-l etant beaucoup plus rapidement attaque que l'allylbenzene, le phenyL.1-butene-1 plus vite que ses isomeres, etc.I1 nous paraissait probable que ces memes differences se montreraient en prenant l'acide peracetique comme oxydant et de plus que le caractere des produits obtenus serait plus ou moins intimement lie a ces differences de vitesse. Une oxydation rapide p. ex., produirait principalement le monoacetate du diol, tandis qu'une oxydation lente causerait soit la formation de plus de diacetate soit de:s complications.

Hiergegen ist geltend zu machen, daB die von S c h e i b l e r offenbar aus diesem Grunde angenommene Art der Uniwandlung des ,,primaren Reaktionsproduktes" in Natracetessigester durch direkte Alkohol-Abspaltung zwischen detn Athoxyl des Ester-Molekuls und der :CH,-Gruppe des Enolat-Nolekuls seiner Komplexformel an sich so unwahrscheinlich und gezwungen ist, daS die so erhaltene Ubereinstimmung van Forniulierung und Tatsachen keine stichhaltige Begriindung bedeutet . -111. Die Verdrangnng des Ester-Molekiils durch B e n z a l d e h y d im ,,primaren Reaktionsprodukt" von Essigester erscheint mir auch bei Claisens Formulierung, entgegen S c h e i b l e r s Meinung, durchaus vorstellbar. Was die Kritik an Schei b l e r s Formulierung der Acetessigester-Kondensation von I. M. S n e l l wid S. M. McElvain12) und von M. C1. F r a n k l i n und W. F. Short's) bitrifft, so konnen da erst weitere Versuche entscheiden. sines la& sich aber schon jetzt sagen: Wain F r a n k l i n und S h o r t daraus, daB sie aus der Umsetzung des ,,primaren Reaktionsproduktes" mit Aryloder Alkylhalogeniden nur Derivate des Acetessigesters erhalten, schlieBen, daR weder die erste, noch die zweite Scheiblersche Formel hierfiir stinimen kann, dann ist das unberechtigt. Der Korper mu13 naturgemaa vie1 m instabil sein, als da13 man bei 1000 oder gar zoo0 eine Umsetzung v o r der Unilagerung erwarten konnte.Vor imgefiihr zwei Jahren haben Dadieu und K o h l r a u s c h l ) eine erweiterte tfbersicht der R a m a n -Frequenzen gegeben, wobei auch verschiedene Atom-Schwingungen theoretisch abgeleitet wurden.Beim Stuclium einiger auffallender R a m a n -Frequenzen in der Umgebung von v = rzoo-1300 cm-l wollte ich die beitn f u m a r -und malein-, ci t r a c o nund mesa c o n s a u r e n N a t r i u m vorkonimenden Frequenzen, welche von Trumpya) untersucht und neuerdings auch von K o h l r a u s c h a ) nachgewiesen, aber nicht gedeutet worden sind, zuordnen, als ich bemerkte da0 merkwiirdigerweise diese R a ni a n -I,inien auch bei verschiedenen B enz o l -D e r i v a t e n auftauchen. T3ei ciner naheren nurchforschung dieser Materic kam ich zum SchlnS, daS diese Frequenzen sich in zwei Gruppen einteilen lassen: I. in die bei (im Mittel) 1200-1 und 2. in die bei (im Mittel) 1275 cm-l, nnd daB diese Linien Schwingungen v o n K o h l e n s t o f f -I f ) Journ. Loxydation du stilbene avec l'acide perbenzoique selon Prileshajew donne quantitativement l'oxyde de stilbene (p. d. f. = 70O). L'oxydation peut &re suivie par titration de l'acide perbenzoique par KI. Elle Cvolue t r b lentement en solution etheree, plus vite dans du chloroforme. M. E. L. de Groot qui a execute cette operation a prepare d'abord une solution assez concentree de l'acide perbenzoique, puis il y a introduit le stilbene, de sorte qu'on maintient toujours un petit exces de l'oxydant. Aprts la fin de l'oxydation il a dimin6 l'acide benzoique par de la soude: la solution chloroformique a ete evaporee et' le reste a ete precipite par l'alcool froid. puis l'oxyde a ete recristallise a quelques reprises en presence du dissolvant (p. d. f. = 69O.5-70O.3) '). Cest pourquoi nous avons employe l'acide peracetique ; les deux stilbenes sont alors attaqub normalement en formant des hydrobenzoineacetates. Le fait que cette addition a lieu montre que les acides perbenzoique et peracetique n'agissent pas d'une maniece analogue. Pendant l'oxydation du stilbene par l'acide peracetique il n'y a pas formation temporaire d'oxyde, car celui-ci resterait alors inchange.Nous avons obtenu le stilbene ordinaire par la decomposition du sel de soude du phenylnitroacetonitrile par la potasse alcoolique sous pression : 2, Prkparation des stilb6nes.
