Radiation therapy combined with the sensitizer razoxane is able to control a recurrent AAM for an unknown time. It remains open whether a radiation treatment alone would have had a similar effect.
Although the patient series is small, there is an interesting trend in local control and survival. The cases are unselected, and the follow-up time is of considerable duration. The treatment can easily be performed at any institution and is tolerated fairly well.
Microscopic studies of two cases of keratinized squamous cell carcinoma, several cases of small cell carcinoma and one of adenocarcinoma of the lung are described and illustrated. The authors suggest that pulmonary tumors which are not readily classified by light microscopy might be classified by electron microscopic examination under one of the main groups of bronchogenic carcinoma.
