Als diese Arbeit in Angriff genommen murde, bestand noch die Maglichkeit, daB das perhydrierte Lumisterin, das l,umistanol, ein solches Epikoprosterin-Homologes sei. Diese Frage ist inzwischen durch die Arbeiten von W i n d a u s und D i m r o t h l ) gelost worden. AuQerdem wurde von I,aucht2) angenommen, da13 das u-Ergostanol, das inan aus den IJmlagerungsprodukten des Ergosterins mit Nickel3) gewinnen kann, ein solches Derivat sei. Rein d el , ) und 27 er nhol z 5, versuchten, auf halbsynthetischem Wege ein Homologes des Koprostans in der Ergosterinreihe aufzubauen. Hierbei entsteht aber an C,, ein neues Asymmetriezentrum, iiber dessen Konfiguration keine Aussage geinacht werden kann. Xin anderes Verfahren ist von GrasshofG) und von Ruzicka') in der Cholesterinreihe zur Darstellung von Koprosterin und Epi-koprosterin angewandt worden. Es fiihrt iiber das a, P-ungesattigte Keton des Cholesterins, das Cholestenon. Bei der Hydrierung niit Palladium in neutralem Medium entsteht fast ausschlieWlich Koprostanon. Die Hydrierung der Ketogruppe in nentralen Losungsmitteln mit Platin liefert in sehr guter Ausbeute das Epi-koprosterin. IXeses Verfahren konnte von uns auf die Ergosterinreihe iibertragen werden, da wir vor einiger Zeit ein Keton des Ergosterins aufgefunden haben, das in seinem Bau ganz dem Cholestenon entspricht8). Es entsteht bei der tliermischen Zersetzung des Ergosteron-maleinsaure-anhydrids; wir haben l ) 13. 70, 376 119371.

In der Tat ist auch das Acetyl-Derivat des E-Stoffes nach dem Schnip. 214-2150 identisch mil; deiii des h-Isonieren voni Sclimp. 213-214O *), so dalJ kein AnlaW bestelit, eine ~-1 b r n i anzunehrnen.
