Die Gesellschaft benötigt eine lebensbegleitende, alle gesundheitlichen Dimensionen des Menschen umfassende, wissenschaftlich fundierte medizinische Grundversorgung. Diese muss wirtschaftlich sein und ebenso die soziale Dimension der Heilkunde im Auge haben.Der Allgemeinarzt als Generalist erfüllt diese Forderung in einer einmaligen, zentralen Stellung. Er ist Integrator und Koordinator im Schnittpunkt aller bisherigen Krankheitserfahrungen, der generellen, aber auch der individuellen. Er ist nicht immer der erste und einzig behandelnde Arzt, der dem Kranken und seiner Krankheit begegnet, doch oftmals der letzte, der ihn langfristig zu betreuen hat. Sei es als Genesenden, defekt geheilten oder als chronisch Kranken. Er ist der Kenner von Chronizität und Multimorbidität, der Fachmann für umsichtiges, patientenorientiertes Handeln, aber auch die erste Anlaufstelle im Notfall.Die Allgemeinmedizin prägt sehr wesentlich die soziale Sicherheit bei Erkrankungsfällen in der Bevölkerung. Das umfangreiche Schrifttum aus dem spezialistischen Bereich orientiert sich an der klassischen klinischen Krankheitslehre und eignet sich daher nur bedingt, dem Kollegen Anleitungen für das Arbeiten an der ersten ärztlichen Linie zu geben. Die einschlägige, fachspezifische Literatur, die diesen komplexen Ansprüchen genügt, ist verstreut und im Übrigen rar.Beide Autoren dieses Buches arbeiten nunmehr seit 30 Jahren in großen Praxen auf dem Lande und sind seit 20 Jahren Fachprüfer für Allgemeinmedizin in der Bayerischen Landesärztekammer sowie Moderatoren in der Seminarweiterbildung für angehende Allgemeinärzte in verschiedenen Landesärztekammern. Beide engagieren sich seit Jahren in der universitären medizinstudentischen Ausbildung.Diese Verbindung ließ ein bemerkenswertes Buch entstehen, das den Medizinstudenten an die angewandte Heilkunde heranführt und das ferner dem in der Weiterbildung zum Facharzt für Innere und Allgemeinmedizin stehenden Jungarzt den Sprung von der Klinik in die Praxis erleichtern kann. Dem zur Weiterbildung befugten Praxisinhaber werden Hilfen in der Schulung seiner Weiterbildungsassistenten an die Hand gegeben. Der langjährig niedergelassene Arzt wird seine Erfahrungen bestätigt finden und als Zusatznutzen eine alltagstaugliche Praxishilfe in Händen halten.Die Zielsetzung dieses Buches ist es daher, in die unüberschaubare Problematik des allgemeinärztlichen Praxisalltages mit seinen nahezu unerschöpflichen charakteristischen und uncharakteristischen Fällen eine bestimmte Systematik hineinzubringen. Das Buch des Autorenduos Mader und Weißgerber ist kein enzyklopädisches Nachschlagewerk, in welchem man nahezu »alles« findet. Der Leser sollte sich schon näher mit diesem Werk befassen, um zu erkennen, wo er seine Lücken hat und wo er in den Spezialbüchern nachschlagen muss, aber auch um zu wissen, mit welchen praxisspezifischen Problemen er »draußen« konfrontiert wird.Die fünfte Auflage »Allgemeinmedizin und Praxis.
