Fidel Castro fue uno de los personajes extranjeros más controversiales de las últimas décadas. A partir de las noticias que generó su muerte en noviembre de 2016, se estudió la memoria construida en torno a su figura por los medios de comunicación de ese país. Considerando que la relación entre memoria y medios no es inocua, se propone que la prensa escrita y los noticiarios de televisión, con sus propias agendas ideológicas y las características de sus soportes, recordaron al líder de la revolución cubana a partir de determinados encuadres mediatizados: rito fúnebre, contextualización y memoria en debate.
Este artículo se deriva de la tesis doctoral del autor defendida en 2016 en la Universidad de Salamanca (España) titulada "Comunicación en América Latina y el rol de accountability mediática al poder político: casos El Comercio y La República en los Vladivideos y El Mercurio de Santiago y La Tercera en Coimas y MOP-GATE", cuyo director fue el profesor Ángel Badillo.
Los éxitos deportivos alcanzados por la Selección Nacional de Fútbol de Chile en los años 2015 y 2016 permiten distinguir los cambios en las percepciones de los chilenos respecto a La Roja. A partir de la consideración de este equipo como una marca, se concluyó que posee un alto grado simbólico en cuanto a elemento de unión de la sociedad chilena, a la que se considera como fragmentada. Para este estudio se realizaron 2.410 encuestas cara a cara en Santiago de Chile a personas de entre 10 y 80 años, que fueron segmentadas a partir de los grupos socioeconómicos que conforman el país.
