O presente trabalho foi planejado para determinar os efeitos da atra-zina (AAtrex W-80), da cobertura morta com restos de cultura e da irrigação no crescimento das ervas daninhas e na produção do milho sob condições de solo semelhantes àquelas encontradas em cultivo mínimo. Este estudo consistiu de dois experimentos de campo em duas séries de solo, Cecil e Norfolk, localizadas no Estado de Georgia, Estados Unidos da América. Áreas nos dois solos foram plantadas com milho e sem irrigação suplementar; e com solo coberto por palha de aveia ou simplesmente sem essa cobertura. Esses canteiros foram pulverizados com três doses de atrazina, com exceção dos tratamentos testemunhas. Para as condições deste estudo, foram obtidas as seguintes conclusões: No solo série Cecil, o crescimento das ervas daninhas foi mais vigoroso nos canteiros sem irrigação e com a cobertura com palha do que nos canteiros com os outros tratamentos. Não houve diferença significativa no crescimento do mato entre tratamentos no solo série Norfolk. Observou-se nos dois experimentos que o crescimento das ervas tendia a ser menor à medida que as doses de atrazina aumentavam. No solo série Cecil, as produções de milho foram bem mais elevadas nos canteiros com cobertura de palha do que naqueles sem a cobertura, principalmente quando irrigados. A cobertura de palha não afetou significativamente as produções do milho no solo série Norfolk. A atrazina controlou as plantas invasoras e aumentou significativamente as produções de milho somente no solo série Norfolk.
Os autores analisam os dados de perdas por erosão obtidos em coletores especiais, durante cêrca de dez anos, em quatro estações experimentais, e estudam suas relações com as características da chuva. A duração da chuva, sua intensidade e distribuição, influenciam a intensidade e o volume total das perdas por erosão. Para cada local estudado, das perdas por erosão e do total e das intensidades máximas de chuva foram calculadas equações de regressão que indicam a relação chuva-perdas. Foram correlacionadas as perdas de terra e água obtidas nos coletores das estações experimentais de Campinas, Pindorama, Ribeirão Prêto e Mococa, com a chuva total, e também com as intensidades máximas de chuva de 5, 15, 30 e 60 minutos, Os resultados mostraram que as simples características de chuva, quando consideradas isoladamente, não foram suficientes para o estabelecimento de uma equação de regressão que represente substancialmnte as perdas por erosão. Assim, em futuros estudos, outros fatôres deverão ser considerados, tais como, o efeito da energia cinética do impacto da gôta de chuva sôbre a superfície do solo, a umidade do solo no momento de ocorrer a chuva (uso do índice de precipitação antecedente) e a duração da chuva.
SINOPSEPerdas de terra e água foram correlacionadas com um fator previamente calculado, que leva em conta a intensidade, a duração e a freqüên-cia das chuvas.Os dados utilizados correspondem a um período de 16 anos e foram coletados no Centro Experimental de Campinas, em talhão experimental cultivado com algodão, continuadamente, em Latossolo Roxo, com declive de 9,9%. Foram estabelecidas relações anuais e mensais, como também procurou-se destacar as relações para o período de outubro a março.As perdas de terra e água apresentaram correlações altamente significativas com o fator chuva, para as combinações selecionadas.
Em trabalho conduzido durante cinco anos, em várias localidades do Estado de São Paulo, foi estudada a consorciação das culturas de milho e lablab (Dolichos lablab L.), com relação ao efeito da época e do sistema de plantio, bem como a proporção das duas plantas, na produção de milho em grãos. A consorciação das duas culturas não alterou significativamente a produção de milho. Quando plantado na mesma época do milho, o lablab, devido à quantidade da massa verde, provocou, em alguns casos, acamamento e dificuldades na colheita.
