ResumoO objetivo deste artigo é identificar os determinantes do investimento em controle ambiental das indústrias brasileiras em 2007, com base num modelo de custos de conformidade e não conformidade. O recorte analisado diz respeito às empresas com 30 ou mais pessoas ocupadas, utilizando técnicas de modelagem estatística com dados cross-sectional através do uso de regressão logística, para estimar a probabilidade da empresa investir. As informações utilizadas são aquelas captadas pela Pesquisa Industrial Anual de Empresas -PIA Empresa, referentes a 2007 e pela Pesquisa de Inovação Tecnológica de 2005 -PINTEC (ambas do IBGE), dados de depósitos de pedidos de patentes nacionais, certificação ISO 14 001 (INMETRO), empresas que exportam (SECEX/MDIC) e de companhias abertas (CVM). Os resultados alcançados com a aplicação da modelagem estatística sugerem que empresas que pertençam aos setores industriais potencialmente mais poluentes têm maior chance de investir em controle ambiental. Observa-se ainda que as variáveis inovação em processo, gastos com propaganda, taxa de investimento, aquisições de máquinas e equipamentos industriais de terceiros e tempo de operação também estão relacionadas com a menor ou maior probabilidade de investimento em controle ambiental no País em 2007.Palavras-chave: investimento ambiental; gestão ambiental; inovação tecnológica; e modelagem estatística.
