Se presenta un estudio etnohistórico acerca del sistema de asentamiento indígena e híbrido de los “Llanos de Valdivia” durante el siglo XVIII. Mediante la integración de información arqueológica, fuentes históricas y trabajo etnográfico se reconocen las rutas y trama espacial de este territorio descrito como infranqueable para las poblaciones hispanas de la Plaza de Valdivia. La apertura de un camino para la articulación de Valdivia y Osorno en 1759 permite acceder a un conjunto de antecedentes que develan formas de interacción y la territorialidad huilliche. Se discute finalmente la complejidad cultural y carácter histórico de bordes y fronteras.
