Spectra of HCl/DCl mixed crystals in the first overtone region have been measured and are consistent with previous spectra of the pure crystals and their assignments. The most prominent additional feature in the mixed crystals is the ν01HCl plus ν01DCl simultaneous transition. The gas-to-solid shifts in ωe and ωeχe were used to test the Lippincott–Schroeder potential and an analogous potential based on the Morse function. Calculations indicate a large effect of the hydrogen bond interaction on the translational lattice vibrations. The gas-to-solid increases in both the HCl bond length and ωeχe make substantial contributions to the frequency shifts.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
