Background:Inflammation represents a pivotal role in the progression of cervical cancer. The hematological markers of inflammation in complete blood count (CBC) panel are potentially useful in determining the prognosis of the disease. Objective:The aim of the study was to investigate whether the pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) could be used as in predicting the stage of cervical cancer. Methods:A retrospective cross-sectional study involving 282 patients with cervical cancer was enrolled at Sanglah General Hospital for five years (2013-2017). The histopathological records and complete blood counts (CBC) of the patients were collected and analyzed using SPSS ver. 16 software. FIGO stage I–II and III-IV were classified as early and advance stage respectively. Results:The median NLR and PLR were significantly higher in the advance stage compared with early stage (7.58 (1.36-33.20) and 247.89 (97.10-707.11); p-value = 0.001). A strong positive correlation was found between the staging of cervical cancer and NLR (r=0.638) and PLR (r=0.668). The AUC, sensitivity, and specificity value of NLR and PLR were 0.803 (82%; 71%) and 0.716 (72%; 70%). Advanced stage of cervical cancer was found in high NLR (adjusted OR: 9.02; 95%CI=2.42-33.64; p=0.001) and PLR (adjusted OR = 2.47; 95% CI = 1.45-4.85; p = 0.032).Conclusion:Increased pretreatment NLR and PLR values may provide a useful information in predicting the staging of cervical cancer.
Introduction: The incidence of preeclampsia quite high and can cause high morbidity and mortality rates for pregnant women thereby preeclampsia is still a problem experienced worldwide. Preeclampsia in Indonesia still gives a frightening impression for both the mother and the fetus. The key to success in the treatment of preeclampsia is prevention and adequate therapy to reduce morbidity and mortality. Indonesia itself, which is an archipelagic country resulting in far apart geographical location between one central hospital to another central hospital that will cause some differences related to the treatment of preeclampsia itself.Aim: The purpose of this review is to give an overview of the different approaches to handling preeclampsia in hospitals in Indonesia, especially Sanglah General Hospital Denpasar and Kandou General Hospital Manado. Conclusion: There are several differences in the treatment of severe preeclampsia at Sanglah General Hospital Denpasar Bali and Prof. Dr. R.D. Kandou Hospital Manado. The differences found were ways to induce labor, use of corticosteroids, detail of MGSO4 administration, and the selection of antihypertensive drugs.Â
In this his study we used endophytic fungi isolated from the roots of mangrove Avicennia marina growing on tidal zone around Tasik Ria Minahasa, North Sulawesi. The fungi were isolated and then tested the antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Potato Dextrose agar was used in order to isolate the target fungi. The fungi began to grow on the second day after inoculation. Differentiation and purification processes to isolate the fungus obtained by observing fungi mycelia. While, the antibacterial activity test was following agar diffusion assay by planting 10 mm diameter of fungal mycelium together with particular bacteria onto the combination media. Ciprofloxacin was used as a positive control. The results shows a visible bacterial inhibition zone around the growing fungi with a diameter between 18 mm to 20.4 mm. Based on the results, it can be concluded that endophytic fungi isolated from the roots of mangrove Avicennia marina is able to inhibit the growth of S.aureus and E. coli.
