As the availability of various bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) tools is increasing, the patient’s position during the test may be of significant importance for the comparability of the results. An observational pilot study was undertaken between March and May 2021 at the Center for Innovative Research in Medical and Natural Sciences at the University of Rzeszow, Rzeszów, Poland. All participants (n = 49: M: 21.05 y ± 1.12 vs. F: 21.34 y ± 2.06) were subjected to measurements of selected nutritional status indicators and body components in three positions: lying, sitting and standing. The body composition indicators were obtained using a bioelectrical impedance device, AKERN BIA 101 Anniversary Sport Edition Analyzer (Akern SRL, Pontassieve, Florence, Italy). The results were analyzed using dedicated software (BodygramPlus 1.2.2.12 from AKERN 2016, Florence, Italy). Our observations indicate that there is a significant difference between lying and standing as well as sitting and standing with respect to anthropometric and nutritional indicators (resistance, reactance, phase angle, standardized phase angle, body cell mass index and fat-free mass index) and body composition components, with particular reference to intracellular and extracellular water. The described differences are significant for both sexes. This study showed that this significantly influenced the scores of components directly related to resistance, reactance and hydrated cell mass, while not affecting the percentages or absolute values of fat and fat-free mass.

Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) is a kind of method that enables an integrated response to the physical effort of the different systems of children and adolescents organism. The field of clinical applications on children and adolescents is widen to assess impairment of physical capacity with an unclear cause and to objectively determine functional capacity. The higher consciousness of better interdependence between exercise tolerance and health condition than with resting measurements is crucial.

Metody diagnostyki prenatalnej oraz zasady i szeroko pojęte wartości moralne są obiektem rozważań problematyki o charakterze etycznym. Głównym celem przeprowadzania badań prenatalnych jest chęć poszerzenia wiedzy o stanie zdrowia płodu. Postępowanie wdrażane podczas badań prewencyjnych lub leczniczych skutkuje możliwością wykluczenia wad genetycznych i leczenia. Aspekty prawne oraz wartości etyczno-moralne nierzadko mają odmienny charakter. Diagnostyka prenatalna warunkowana jest przez czynniki kulturowe, religijne, moralne oraz społeczne. Wraz ze stopniem zaawansowania wiedzy na temat badań dzieci w okresie prenatalnym wzrasta świadomość rodziców oraz personelu medycznego na temat możliwości zmniejszenia wątpliwości dotyczących ciąży. Współczesna eugenika pozwala nam na podjęcie szerszych działań zdrowotnych wobec nienarodzonego dziecka. Należy pamiętać, iż badania prenatalne mają wiele zalet, takich jak identyfikacja ciąż podwyższonego ryzyka, płodów z wadami anatomicznymi lub funkcjonalnymi. Badania te mogą prowadzić do zastosowania odpowiednich kroków, aby dziecko miało możliwie jak największe szanse na otrzymanie pomocy.

Biofeedback is defined as providing feedback about changes in the patient’s physiological state, by means of stimuli other than those used by the body, usually with the use of technology. This article presents an analysis based on the surveys regarding the awareness of Polish society about biological feedback and its effectiveness in the rehabilitation of patients with cardiac problems. The study was conducted to justify the use in the therapy on people with cardiac problems. The analysis of the patients results after cardiovascular diseases was carried out during the cardiac rehabilitation in which the biofeedback was used.
